Is it because you are a poorfag? This is the best laptop that can exist.

Yet the people that buy it only use it to check their f*cebook and tw*tter
>>
>>61392782
Mmhm, jealousy I think!

Love mine!

Only thing I'd contest is "future proof", as it kinda sucks that everything is soldered. But it is what it is. Not being Windows or Linux (and working so well with portable devices that are not Android) is a massive massive bonus that far outweighs its non upgradeable nature.

>God Tier keyboard
I like the MacBook Pro but calling the keyboard anything but awful is delusion.
The complete lack of travel makes it feel like you're typing on a flat piece of paper.
>>
>>61392782
>being outperformed by $500 usd laptops
Joke's on you.
>>
>>61393113
Haven't seen mine do that when monitoring with Intel Power Gadget. I guess it might throttle if you absolutely hammer the CPU and GPU at the same time for a prolonged period for benchmarks, but it's not something that happens in real world use.

>>61393145
Not OP but I agree that the keyboard is great. At least the 2017 version (it possibly got tweaked?)
I actually find it really comfy to type on, have no trouble with textwalls at all. It is, however, a bit noisy.
>>
>>61393155
with a substantial downgrade on screen, trackpad and build quality, not to mention the os and durability
>>
>>61393203
yeah, but if you spend 2000 USD maybe you get a way better laptop.
>>
>>61392782
>Excellent GNU/Linux & *BSD support
Is that true? I thought the new mbp had pretty bad linux support.
>God Tier keyboard and trackpad
Really? I've tried the keyboard a bit and I couldn't type for shit.
>Competitively priced
Eh.

I kinda want one without the idotic touchbar solely for the screen. I'd probably have to add protections and it'd end up weighting a ton though.
Is there a cheaper alternative with a decent battey life and a screen that's as good?

>>
>>61393301
Dongle is just an easy target (low hanging fruit? haha) but actually a fairly poor one - USB-C type connectors are clearly the future and you can get 3-packs of adaptors for about £6.

Like with the iPhone 7. "lol courage port" yeah we get it, it's a fair but wayyyyyy overblown criticism considering most of us have never charged and had a headphone plugged in at the same time.
>>
>>61392782
>2560 x 1600
lmao

Get with the times fuckboi. My laptop has a god damn 4K screen on it you fucking poorfag little pegging bitch.
>>
>>61393936
>muh 4k that I can only notice with a magnifying glass

Enjoy the pointless waste of battery power and GPU load.
>>
>>61393919
Being an easy target doesn't make it wrong. Apple could have easily done 2 type-c and two type-a and avoided this mess entirely. Being "future proof" is retarded when you're actively inconveniencing people in the present.
>>
>>61393963
>my high definition is valid but yours isn't
Come on dude can we just have a reasonable discussion about this
>>
>>61393964
It's not wrong it's just way overblown. Mountain out of a molehill. Adaptors are so cheap you can literally just buy one for every device and solve the problem
>>
>>61393988
>needing to carry an adapter around with you everywhere you go
>>
>>61393988
Yeah I mean there are many ways to explain around it, it's still a completely unnecessary pain in the ass.
>>
>>61393976
I'm not the grandparent comment, but come on - you don't get a reasonable discussion in return by calling people fuckbois and bitches XD

Apple went to great lengths to figure out what "retina", meaning what you reasonably can see a few inches from your face, constitutes. It's just over 300ppi. 4K on a 13" screen is just invisible overkill imo.

>>61394014
>>61394035
Presumably you're already carrying the device around with you (seeing as you need to carry the adapter around with you) so the only "inconvenience" is having a small adapter on the end?

I'm not saying it's ideal, a USB-A port and a little bit more thickness would've been fine and good, but the way people go on, you'd think Apple had literally shat on it and forced a purchase.
>>
>Fake edit: just over 300, inches from your face
I meant to add that laptops don't tend to be inches from your face and 200 is considered fine, before anyone pipes up on that issue!
>>
>>61394118
Why the hell did they get rid if the headphone jack?
>>
>>61394154
Courage

They like to keep things as thin as possible and it wouldn't fit with all the other gubbins they wanted.

Again I think it's a valid criticism (love my SE, which has a headphone jack as an option to use, even though I use bluetooth with it 99% of the time) it's just the way people make out it's the worst thing anyone has ever done and that it's akin to murdering babies.
>>
>>61394227
>courage

That's a funny way to say greed. Buy our Bluetooth headphones, goyim, they're only $199.99. Oh, you don't want those? Well you have to buy our proprietary wired headphones. We're Changing the World® Progress©
>>
>>61392782
>dongle hell
Yeah, I'd rather not. Better off getting an XPS. For the same price you can get an i7, 16GB of RAM and an SSD the same size and speed. A good keyboard, reasonable trackpad, a USB-C Thunderbolt3 port for your newer devices but still have USB3.0 ports for older devices and a card reader.

Honestly don't understand how the Macbook is even an option.

I've been shopping around for a true alternative to the mbp and the only one I found that comes remotely close is the OLED Yoga. But for $2000 you're stuck with integrated and a mediocre battery life. Meanwhile for $2200 you get a dGPU and 9 hr battery on the mbp.

I wnat to get one but don't have enough disposable income. I have friends who hace macbooks, looks like a very enjoyable product. Just stuck here with my 2007 compaq and a 2004 desktop

it's a perfect computer for those who are not tech enthusiasts or gamers. let's be honest here, the only people who care about hardware specs are hobbyists and poorfags (who need something to make them feel good about their poorness and not feel bad about not working harder).

i mean the design is beautiful, the keyboard is perfect, the screen is the best, the OS is perfect for non-tech geek productive people, it's fast and not something that requires you to be a tech savvy person in order to fix it if it's broken someday. it has great customer service. also it's that company that don't only make the hardware but also the software.

the only reason you hate it is because it's expensive but can't be used to videogame. well it's a laptop for people who had gone through the videogame phase. it's for adults.

Give me 3 good reasons to replace my XPS 15 with this Macbook.
>>
>>61401568
i can't. you're on /g/, so computer is probably your hobby. if computer is your hobby, then mac isn't for you. macs are for people who you will work for
>>
>>61401568
macbook has better display, os and battery life iirc

not that i'd actually replace it if you already got the xps 15

and then literally in the same post you say
>Is it because you are a poorfag?
So wchich on is it?
>>
>>61401615
Actually my XPS 15 was given to me at my workplace, and it was chosen by our Senior programmers (why they didn't give us ThinkPads like I suggested I don't know, but I won't complain about being given an almost 1600€ laptop).

And before anyone assumes it, I don't just program, I also do photo and video editing as well as graphic design with it. The screen on the XPS 15 is really good.
>>
>>61401651
well you'd get better experience with a macbook but i assume you're pretty prejudiced towards apple, like "ugh it's normie and gay and betacuck ugh deus vult" then just stick with your current stuff.
>>
>>61401709
I'm really not prejudiced, at my previous job I worked with Mac desktop computers (the ones with 5k screens, don't remember the model) as a video/image editor and also doing 3D rendering and they are just fine.
But here's the thing, beyond the built in high quality screen I really didn't feel like the machines were particularly more productive or useful to me and my job than my windows based assembled Desktop PC with comparable specs (except the screen) that I have at home for a much better price.
>>
>>61401634
It has a brighter display, but even it's p3 color gamut screen isn't as useful as the 100% Adobe rgb 4k on the XPS 15 that allows switching of color modes. Battery life is also pretty much the same since apple thought it'd be great to strip over 20wh of battery away from it's latest 15 inch model.

If your "real world" use is browsing facebook then sure, it probably won't throttle on you.

Try encoding a video or doing something that's even remotely CPU intensive and you'll quickly see that it takes three times as long on the throttlebook compared to a real computer.

There's a reason there's more games for GNU/Linux than MacOS now, these toys can't handle anything that tries to actually use the GPU or the CPU so you can't really use them for anything.

>>61393919
Who are you trying to kid there? I have zero devices that use USB-C. I've got external harddrives and mice and keyboards and USB sticks and so on and they all use a normal USB port.

It's apple and their practices are shit. They try so hard to become a monopole and want to force you to buy as much up to date apple shit as possible. If everything you own is apple and everything is the latest model you're set but over time they will release new hardware with no compatibility for your old devices.
There are many more reasons like this which should tell you that by buying apples crap you support malicious practices and it will only get worse in the future if you keep buying this shit.

>>

>because they want to sell their dongles
no because they predicted that usb c will be the future. usb c is faster and better experience in general than regular usb, so by forcing you to use usb-c, they're like forcing you to always experience faster transfer etc etc. so in your subconscious mind, you always experience speed etc etc the good stuffs from usb-c.

>>61403991

>>
>>61392782

I bought one last week, I love it! It takes sometimes to understand how things are working, but once you are over it it's perfect
>>
>>61403292
This is so odd. The extra cost to make molds and machinery for the board that has 2 ports cost them far more then if they had just had the 13" model come with 4 ports standard.

This kind of fuckery with consumers makes me hate a company. If you want to justify higher priced models there are plenty of ways to do it with screen/ram/hdd/ssd/gpu/cpu that are justifyable cost savings to the manufacturer.

bull. the extra space from removing the jack doesn't add significant space for a larger battery. phones with larger batteries are bigger rectangles and/or are thicker, because that's how you fit in a larger battery. it's not like they can make an L-shaped tetris battery that can hold 50 more mah by fitting into the space the headphone jack had. also the iphone has far from stellar battery life.

macOS actually uses DSR for everything, mostly for better text rendering...

Anything running on native "retina" resolutions are actually undergoing pixel doubling, which absolutely tanks framerates and render speeds.

Plug it into a 1080p monitor and shut the lid, and you see normal performance on literally everything.

The lack of travel isn't much of a concern. It has a clicky tactile bump, similar to that of an old dumbphone with a flip out keypad.

Trackpoint isnt even a real benefit. Can't do any shortcut gestures with a clitmouse.

Non removable batteries have become the norm for most serious laptops, and self repair isn't something that normies do... they call up the manufacturer and send it in if it's under warranty. Which Apple's mail order is pretty damn good.

Windows is proprietary. Pretty irrelevant since you can install any of the 3 platforms out there on a Mac...

monopolies are okay because you shouldn't regulate something only because you're too much of a brainlet to compete. literally centralized laws and regulations are made by cartels filled with you people crying to the government begging to make things easier to accomodate your incompetence.

Monopoly: the exclusive possession or control of the supply of or trade in a commodity or service.

>At first I didn't enjoy the new dildo but now I whenever I have to get fucked with the old one it feels archaic in comparison

>>61416396
but that monopoly is a myth. the only monopoly that can happen is if the government regulated for it. if a supplier (or ALL supplier) actually exclusively sell their products to only one company, it would be VERY risky for them because what if that company failed in making profits ? that's why in a perfectly liberal economy, that thing will never happen because it's illogical for it to happen
>>
>>61416396

how ? suppliers are private companies, they have the right to choose who they want to sell their products to. if that reality actually happens, there will be new supplier companies emerging because of the demand.
>>
>>61416531
>but their actual hardware
Did you just ignore my point or something?
>how
Exclusive contracts. There's more to hardware than just manufacturing it - you have to actually make it available for the customer and have software available for it. There's many levels to pull here.
>>
>>61392782
No libreboot support. Do you even value your freedom, privacy, and security?

Even if they attempted to support it, I don't believe you can remove the Intel NIC that would not be supported by libreboot to replace it with a compatible atheros wireless NIC.

Let's say this is all solved. I still would prefer it to have a trackpoint and no trackpad. The lack of function keys is alarming at first, but as someone who generally uses a 60% keyboard, it's not really a big deal, as long as I can somehow simulate function keys another way.

The best laptop is whatever shitbox you can get for less than $200 on ebay. Laptops are not serious computers.
>>
>>61416695
>no i responded to it clearly
No you did not. I've shown an example of software monopoly, if hardware monopolies weren't banned it would be the same shit. Even with explicit bans there are ways to be an effective monopoly, and it's never led to anything good. So, going way back to the original post - hardware and software manufacturers SHOULD be separated, to allow competition in both fields.
>>
>>61416747

used the 'genius bar' once ever (only ever had one apple product), I made an appointment ahead of time and it wasn't very busy even when I showed up like 5-10 minutes early. I waited on a kind-of uncomfortable stool (the distance to the bar you rest your legs on was a bit odd so it felt like I had to hold my legs up) and a likely-gay (no joke) guy ended up replacing my iPod Touch 4 for free. I had dropped it on a tile floor and cracked it pretty badly. I did a factory reset and brought it in and even without applecare or whatever it's called, I got a free one. He wrote it off as me paying $100 if I recall correctly. My friend who was with insisted that it was because he was probably gay. Overall very positive experience.

I hate to mention the gay guy since that's such a meme, and I actually don't like to mindlessly shit on Apple, but it was really what happened. He was at least flamboyant and probably low-test, that doesn't really mean he was gay I suppose.

I typed on a 2015 macbook pro, and that had even more key travel than the new one. And it was still like typing on a touch screen because you can barely feel the keys moving.
