I'm a sucker for these threads. I wonder what shitty browsers I will try this time before I go back to Firefox and wait for the High Sierra bugs get resolved.

to be honest, Chrome is absolutely the best browser but I still use firefox because I'm embarrassed about jacking off to Avril Lavigne videos and I figure LESS people know about that if I use FF than a big google browser

As far as the browser is concerned you're just watching Avril Lavigne videos

Can I ask why you use Pale Moon over Ice Cat?

I've been thinking of switching from Ice Cat as I don't want to go back to the Chrome and Firefox botnets. Pale Moon seems to be the only other option.

>>
Fuck Chrome, but in 2017 and knowing what we know about Mozilla, what type of idiot would use Firefox?
>>
>>61383225
Pale Moon is a fork of Firefox that forked very early and doesn't have full Firefox plugin support, but has its own plugin community and to some extent can run a few Firefox plugins.

IceCat and IceWeasel are exactly the same as Firefox but with the logo changed since the logo is proprietary. It's also in the hands of GNU developers and not Mozilla developers, so its inherently more trustworthy. Honestly, Pale Moon is beginning to disappoint me with its rate of progress.
>>
embracing the botnet and not going full tinfoil feels great
>>
>>61383263
Thanks for responding. I guess I'll stick with IceCat for the time being.

Kinda upset over the state of browsers these days and all the botnet shit going on.

I just switched back to Firefox, to be honest. I'm a winfag so I've decided to switch to Edge as soon as it has something like uMatrix, but I realized that Edge lacking uMatrix was no reason to stick with Chrome for the time being. I don't give a fuck about social justice or JavaScript benchmarks or whatever excuse you retards use to shit on Firefox.

>>
Why is Firefox using so much memory and cpu? Is it a settings issue?
>>
>>61383263
>Honestly, Pale Moon is beginning to disappoint me with its rate of progress.
Pale Moon is fine. 90% of Firefox' problems wouldn't even exist if it wasn't for "progress".
>>
>>61383984
if by "progress" you mean sjws with agendas i agree
>>
>>61383996
That's half of the problem, but the other half is "progress" as in making retarded UI changes for the sake of changes, following the shitty trends without having clue what they're doing instead of setting good trends, shifting from usability and customisability for power users to removing vital options and nannying retards, and just fixing something that was already fucking perfect.

Fuck sjws and their bullshit agendas that have no place in tech, I don't know how much they overlap with the issues that Firefox is ridden with and whether they are the cause or just a symptom, but I know for sure they are not the whole story.

I've been using Firefox since it was fucking Phoenix 0.1, things started going to shit after 3.6, and it's been in unrecoverable spin ever since they started the rapid versioning horseshit.
>>
>>61383782
You don't need uMatrix, run Ublock in medium block for everything; this is what the developer for Ublock uses.
>>
>>61382788
Because I already have an android phone, gmail account and gdrive.

There's literally fuck all google doesn;t know about me already.

I want an easy life, I'm willing to give up some of my privacy to the botnet for it, you literally cannot live in a world where you are not getting tracked anyway.

Well, unless your a hermit.
>>
The only reason I use Chrome is because I have too many bookmarks and passwords saved for convenience across different devices. I am aware that bookmarks can be exported but paswords? I dunno.

Are often delusional retards. Anything that keeps the ``power users'' down is a good move. Maybe if Mozilla is lucky, all their remaining power users will move to Chrome and spew their vitriol in Google's general direction.
>>

Thanks y'all, im not sure what browser to use.
>>
>>61382788
I switched back when a single tab would crash firefox. Ive been wanting to go back to firefox for tree style tabs and downthemall but I don't see the point anymore with the upcoming changes .
>>

because its fast
because it supports more extensions that i use than any other browers.

>>
>>61382788
because I am not on the autism spectrum and I don't get paranoid about the NSA spying after me and "muh botnetz" just because I enabled Sync so I can access my bookmarks on the laptop AND the phone and don't have to search for all the obscure extensions just because I switched computers

privacyfags should have their backs against a wall and be shot in the head with the smallest pistol cartridge available so we don't waste more resources to them than we absolutely have to

but it won't happen, so they will keep using their obscure and shit-tier browsers which are so shit most websites automatically load the mobile version because it doesn't support anything written after 2004

>>
>>61386000
Ah, thanks for the explanation
>>
>>61386015

>>
I'll be stuck to Firefox forks until I can completely change the look of any Chrome fork. I can set almost any Firefox to any look I want, but fuck chrome desu.
>>
Chrome has ugly font rendering, a shitty profile button forever in the title bar and I don't like how the interface work. Like when you download something, a fuckhuge bar on the bottom pops up. So fucking retarded. On Firefox it's just a small button on the top of the screen next to the address bar, out of the way but easily accessible.
>>
>>61383225

>>
>>61386000

>>
>>61386109

>>
>>61386127
I was more talking about his vs2017 build.
>>
>>61386156
How long have you been using it for? I've been using Nik's WPOs for months, I'll download it and give it a try and wonder if I'll feel or see any improvements.
>>
>>61386183
Not for very long to be honest. I keep switching between Firefox Nightly and different Chromium builds because of autism I guess. The difference isn't large but when I'm loading in multiple webms at once, or trying to load a long page with several videos autoplaying the vs2017 build has been slightly faster for me.
>>
>>61386201
Sounds good but I'm curious of your PC specs incase that might have something to do with it affecting performance on those sort of pages.

I'm 7700k, 16GiB DDR4, 1070.
>>
>>61386226
Yours is actually stronger than mine so if anything you'll have a faster experience than me no matter what. I'm using a regular 7700 and a 1060, though I also have 16GB of DDR4 RAM. Gonna be upgrading when Coffee Lake comes out because of the chipset improvements more than anything else.

Man I'm too lazy to do it but there really needs to be a technical showdown between various Chromium builds, the stock one and Firefox Nightly.
>>
>>61386268
>technical showdown between various Chromium builds, the stock one and Firefox Nightly.

I'm also autist and used to do these and record them for Youtube but the variables in internet speed, response from web servers etc essentially wreck accurate tests but you can still get an idea on what's better especially when testing a list of popular content heavy websites we're talking 14MB+ tons of elements and bloat and of course it's fun to test without an adblocker too as extra obstacles, including those browser benchmark websites too. I stopped years ago because lazy.
>>
>>61386323
Know those feelings all too well. You said you've been using Nik's WPO build for months now, how has that treated you? Like any other user-compiled Chromium build?
>>
>>61386413
I was an autistic jumper like you between Canary and FF Nightly until I found chromium woolyss website, jumped between builds on there until I was happy with Nik's and by that I mean happy with speed, no crashing tabs like regular chromium gave me. Overall I've liked it alot but if Robs MS2017 does better I may aswell switch.

By the way if you haven't already, get the addon called Decentraleyes... helps with your privacy and while doing so actually speed up pages in certain instances. I used that back on FF but now it's out for Chrome so I yipeed.
>>
>>61386491
>Decentraleyes

Interesting. I only haven't kept myself up-to-date as far as good-to-have addons go after I stopped trying to use NoScript and uBlock Matrix since they break things more than they help me out and I just didn't have the energy to go through every individual site I use to optimize them.

And one small thing but the thing that irks me the most about Chrome is that while the UI is for the most part flawless, they just had to make the profile switcher unremovable. God damn it.

You've become boring, /g/. Here's a new idea about ungoogled chromium:

Yandex claims they disabled Google's anal probes (makes sense), and provide configuration options to disable their own.

Go! Go! Go!

Note that spyfeatures like checks for malware domains still need to be disabled by user.

There are too many shills for and against each fork, the end result is a lot of FUD and feeling that unless you analyze the whole code yourself then you'll never be sure, so why the fuck bother using non-vanilla Alphabet[tm]-approved Chrome.

I wonder who could be behind this...
