If this ends up a 155W part, Intel should consider killing themselves.

Because lets face it familia, you don't need 8/16/32 cores. It's a pure madness. Quad core CPUs are the best option for mobile and desktop (gayming) computers. More coraz are needed in specific kinds of servers, but still not all...

Epyc and Threadripper aren't really products for the average consumer. They're workstation and datacenter products.

The best part about this whole situation is it might force Intel to actually compete with AMD in those spaces for once. Monopolies don't benefit consumers, anon.
>>
>>61354486
The bad part is that Intel can't compete against AMD right now.
They have 2 SKUs left in lineup.
g4560 will be killed by low-lever RR APU.
That leaves 7700k.
>>
>>61354391
>Gayming today at 1440p is even possible with dual core pentiums or i3s, yet you're shilling all the time to get as much CORAZ as possible.

You're the one who brought up gaming.

>For what fucking purpose you dumb cunt?

I'm absolutely sure multi-billion dollar companies like Intel and AMD absolute love to piss away millions over millions on useless manycores. And don't even get me started on that waste called servers! Oh boy!

If you cannot answer that yourself, you don't belong on this board.

Oh, why would you buy a more powerful quad core if you have all you need? Obviously faster is better. Maybe YOU should optimize your poorly threaded software for post-2005 CPUs.
>>
>>61354557
How many times are you going to spam this?
>>
>>61354391
the thing you're forgetting is that, even if your software can't make use of that much parallel power, modern CPU schedulers certainly can. moar coars essentially allows your system to perform more tasks at once without said tasks compromising each other. this is an incredibly underrated strength, because very few reviewers care to measure it. you can only realize the difference going from one system to another.

the importance of it entirely relies on the habits of the user though. that's why the decision between an i7 and an R7 is not an easy one. the problem with Intel's lower end chips though, is that they're such a shitty value compared to the R5s that there's zero reason for anybody at all to buy them. the marginal gain in single thread perf is not worth the gaping chasm in overall perf, for anyone.

>that's why the decision between an i7 and an R7 is not an easy one.
Well it's a pretty easy most of the time. Are you going for 120hz+ gayming with a 180 or better? If no---> amd
If that is something you want, then yeah it gets complicated.
>>
On the high end and server segment Intel apparently has nothing to counter Zen short of making huge chips with terrible efficiency.

Intel's middle chips are competitive but often inferior to Ryzen chips of around the same price.

Intel's lower end and low power segment is probably going to be significantly challenged by Ryzen 3 and Zen APUs with better performance/watt.

This is looking bad for Intel.

Serious answer to a (probably) not serious question.

With the way things were headed for years it was looking like AMD would drop out of the CPU market which would be very disruptive to consumers who rely on competition for cheap products. Now we don't have to worry about that because AMD is making good products again.

Not all code can be threaded that hard, and not talking only about games here.
But given the fact Ryzen use a shitload of bizarre new technologies like a literal neural network to try to predict the future to get less branch prediction misses, it's quite probable that you will get a boost on the single core performance as the architecture matures.
The first being obviously a refinement of this neural network, by running more shit on it and evolving it into something better.
Also maybe shrinking the pipeline a bit to the stalls not be so painful, improvement into the fetches etc..

>Intel is finished

I struggle to understand why people want one company to succeed in destroying the other. Do you want processor technology to stagnate? Do you want those stagnant chips to cost thousands of dollars? No? Then you should not only want both Intel and AMD to challenge each other but you should also want a dozen other companies to join in the fight — and then you should want all of those companies to one-up the leader month to month and accelerate the rate of processor technology while keeping costs at a competitive level.

tl;dr - The only side you should ever, ever root for is the consumer.

Jim Keller needs to go back to AMD

Why tho?

Exactly my point. Intel and AMD have both milked the consumer with purposefully incremental upgrades. Because there is so little competition in this market, the consumers are being sold trivial improvements that take years to reach the market while being enormously overpriced. We shouldn't be rooting for one company to win. We should be rooting for ten more companies to join the fight. We should be rooting for governments to file antitrust lawsuits against Intel and splinter the company into a dozen pieces and make way for smaller companies to compete in this market.

Let's start at x86-64 and end at IF?

You are talking to a section of millennials who would wager processor advancement just for the chance of being right and fitting in. This is as dumb as McDonalds vs. Burger King and anyone who participates in this stupid faggotry should get a new hobby.

That's the Pentium 4 Emergency Edition.

That would be 7740x tho.

I have a feeling that we still didn't see the modern pentium 4 emergency edition from intel
>>
If Zen2 is going to skip over to the 7nm node, then what AMD CPU is going to use the 14nm+ node that they showed off in the investor slide?
>>
>>61357618
APUs? APUs.
Boy DELL better deliver me an XPS13 with quadcore RR.
>>61357609
7980xe is exactly that.
>>
>>61357618
probably the desktop/laptop APUs on the end of the year
>>
>>61357642
I have a feeling that they'll release a 4c or 6c on mainstream platform with 160W+ tdp
>>
>>61357670
Very very very very super bad idea.
Selling housefire in mainstream is retarded.
SKL-X already almost fucking killed Intel's reputation.
>>
>>61357642
>>61357647
Then what the fuck is the point of releasing Ryzen 3 now on an inferior node with higher CCX latency penalties? It won't matter how low the Ryzen 3's prices are when the Athlon X4 versions of the APUs come out.
>>
>>61353547
Same thing people like you said for two cores than four...now this
>>
>>61353336
Probably isn't, because AMD wasn't when Intel won.
>>
>>61357696
We don't know what Ryzen3 is. Maybe these ARE the Athlons.
>>
>>61357714
No, they're Ryzen 5 1400s with SMT disabled. RR will have a smaller L3$ at 6MB or so.
>>
>>61357726
>RR will have a smaller L3$ at 6MB or so.
Source?
>>
>>61357752
The leaked benchmarks of supposed RR APUs showed a 6000-odd MB L3$. That segmentation is not really possible with Ryzen.
>>
>>61357609
>The added cache generally resulted in a noticeable performance increase in most processor intensive applications. Multimedia encoding and certain games benefited the most, with the Extreme Edition outperforming the Pentium 4, and even the two Athlon 64 variants, although the lower price and more balanced performance of the Athlon 64 (particularly the non-FX version) led to it usually being seen as the better value proposition.
History repeats itself, anon.
>>
>>61357767
That's one CCX, and you can simply disable the L3$ slice you want.
We'll see, but i think it'll still have full 8Mb of L3$ for 1 full CCX.
