Lets talk about LaTeX /g/entlemen. Which editor is the best, which is the worst? Windows or Linux, doesn't matter.

I don't use latex and don't really know where to begin using it. I don't write science documents and don't do math and shit. All I do is use Emacs to write out documents and my journal that I plan to write for the rest of my life for a possible memoir or something and there is a latex exporting option that I'd like to use in case I want to actually print it or something.

tl;dr where can I learn latex basics for non STEM documents?

I'd just like to interject for moment. What you're refering to as LaTeX, is in fact, Lamport ΤΕΧ, or as I've recently taken to calling it, Lamport ΤΕΧHN. LaTeX is not a text editor unto itself, but rather another free document preparation system made useful by TeX distributions such as TeX Live or MikTeX and vital system components comprising a full document preparation system as defined by Wikipedia.
Many computer users run a modified version of the TeX system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of TeX which is widely used today is often called LaTeX, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the TeX system, developed by some weird CS professor.
There really is a LaTeX, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. LaTeX is the kernel: the program in the system that produces the beautiful texts of scientists and people who would like to be some. The kernel is an essential part of the system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a editor based system. LaTeX is normally used in combination with an editor such as Vim or Kile (only fags use Lyx btw): the whole system is basically TeX with LaTeX added, or TeX/LaTeX. All the so-called LaTeX distributions are really distributions of TeX/LaTeX!
