Google hates this open-platform shit as much as Apple does. They were just forced to use it because they got blindsided when the iphone was released and had to race to catch up. Now they're trying to lock it down again, make sure everything is bolted down firmly to Google-controlled things.

setting up android development is pretty crazy due to various tools used, incompatible versions and such. the android studio seems to be the only thing holding the clusterfuck somewhat together.
Ever tried setting up Qt for android development? I think I lost quite a lot of hair during several iterations. Error -1.
Can't wait to see some less shitty system.

There is a vim plugin for android studio that's pretty good, you can even have a custom vimrc. If I were you, I would take my time to learn android development using android studio, and then switch to my environment of choice, if it's still important.
Here's the plugin btw: https://plugins.jetbrains.com/plugin/164-ideavim

I've used Android Studio, it's a slow and bloated POS if you'll pardon the bluntness. Almost every other language I know can be written exclusively using vim and a handful of other CLI tools. Why is Android different?

much like modern android
most off the shelf linux distros too, for that matter
its a sad fact of the neo cyber future that everything not made by Microsoft is complete gutter trash that crashes at the drop of a hat and hangs up on the simplest operations when its not outright hard locking. i dont know when this shift happened exactly but i have never had a good experience with android anything in the past 5 years or so
I did React Native in vim.
