KDE > XFCE > GNOME
Unity and LXDE are dead.
LXQt is still in early development.
MATE is shit, outdone by XFCE and LXDE.
Cinnamon is shit, outdone by KDE, XFCE and GNOME.
Pantheon is shit, outdone by KDE and GNOME.
>>61296164
>not using a tiling window manager
it's like you still enjoy living in the world of the cucks
DE should be chosen according to the user's needs and preference. There is no need to compete.
>>61296441
Features:
KDE>Gnome>Xfce>Mate>lxde>i3
Stability:
Xfce>i3>Mate>lxde>Gnome>KDE
Why would you use KDE than?

>>61296164
I like XFCE, but for some reason, synaptik glitches out on it. I can't load the driver's two-finger tap on correctly, even after digging into xorg confs. On a mouse and keyboard setup, XFCE is the best DE out there, though.
In the meantime, I'll just keep using MATE.
>>61296301
budgie is literally gnome with features locked out, kevin.
>>61296527
lol only a faggot would be reasonable like that
bugs
kde > xfeces > gnome
>>61296705
Because debian 9 came out and it has plasma.
>/g/ suddenly likes KDE
what the fuck happened????
>>61296164
xfce is truly the master race of desktop environments
Whats wrong with LXDE?
Kde+i3 is fucking king. Kde has improved leaps and bounds from where it was a year+ ago.
I will never go back to gnome and half it's broken or missing functionality
>>61298007
On top of that I won't go back to xfce either Katie is so fucking good

it's literally GARBAGE-TIER!
>>61298054
it's ok if you have enough RAM
Just switched to dwm on debian from openbox. I used tiling wms like ratpoison and i3 before, but I really like dwm and reget not using it sooner.
>>61298064
RAM is irrelevant. GNOME is a still-aborted tablet UI. it's shit.
Or I could just use Windows and have a stable desktop, faggots
>>61298223
the price is your privacy
I'll give you this OP, KDE is pretty. However, when I tried the Live CD a few weeks ago I had screen tearing just like when I first installed XFCE. I threw it in the trash and was glad to go back to my XFCE.
what's the best distro for xfce?
>>61296301
can't use budgie without systemd - garbage
>>61296164
I'm hoping for LxQt.
Xfce is nearly perfect but I'm starting to believe GTK is cancer. Xfce has nearly completed the port to GTK+ 3, and the Gnome developers are already releasing a new version that will break everything.
>>61298341
What type of stupid question is that? Whatever distro you prefer is the best distro for xfce
>>61296301
That name Budgie and logo. Keep Kevinnet away from my vicinity.
Openbox.
>>61298395
Isn't LXQt pretty much dead?

there really isn't even a debate, the answer is obvious

dwm
if you use anything else your opinion is shit
Desktop environment thread you say?
Have you heard about our lord and savior i3 by any chance?
Using a window manager is far more efficient that running a desktop environment.
You care about efficiency right anon?

Give KDE neon a try. Had screen tearing on kubuntu but not on neon.
>>61296164
Install Archbox (Arch + Openbox) (At least it's better than Boyjaro)
archbox-linux.github.io
Or just install Arch.
>>61296705
Because no tearing
wayland: sway
xorg: i3wm/openbox

He said there's no screen tearing on Xfce. It's obviously a trolling

Compared to the convoluted mess that is pacman, apt-get is actually fucking good.

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS (((XFCE)))
IT'S Xfce YOU MONKEYS
>>61301517
there is only one annoying thing with apt, i.e:
>apt-cache search
>apt-get install
there are two different commands for arbitrary different things.
IMO dnf is actually the best and fedora would be the best easy distro if it weren't for all the "testing" autism redhat pumps in
>>61301785
I've seen a script by russ cox iirc that lets you type just apt and chooses the right command based on what argument you passed.
>>61301874
That's pretty cool I guess.
I have seen someone do pacman aliases but it was at the point that I stopped using arch.
to anyone that has actually used it, is just a window manager even close to being productive? Much like this guy's here >>61296252
I have just started using ubuntu recently and for the life of me I can't imagine any benefits at all
Is it just a meme?
>>61296705
kde is as stable as a fancy castle built on a beach but you use it so you don't have to use god awful gtk based des
t. i3 but ex kde user
>>61300491
No because firefox ruins memory usage anyway
>>61303141
A WM by itself isn't productive. WM users create their own DEs using only the components they need. That's how they achieve less bloat.
>>61301517
>pacman -Syu

>>61297850
nothing its based af for older computers
>>61301785
use apt
apt search
apt install
https://itsfoss.com/apt-vs-apt-get-difference/
>>61303141
suprisingly, window managers aren't a meme. I use i3 on my laptop and it's very comfy because I dont't have to use touchpad.
Sometimes, though I like to use a mouse without keyboard and that's not possible with wm. That's why I have Xfce on my main system.
>>61298102
A lot of people call me crazy for using it daily but it's susprisingly useful and efficient when set up properly eh? Congrats on becoming enlightened.
>>61303141
I loved using KDE with Awesome. It was a comfy productivity boost the reduced need to manage windows with the trackpad in my tiny laptop.
>>61296252
>not using gnome + i3
>>61306597
Minimalism is kinda the point of wm. But it's nice that you have a choice to install i3 on a bloated DE
