Are there any concise tutorials for Photoshop and InDesign?
I don't want to be an expert but I do want to feel comfortable working with them.

Learn the basis of vector graphic vs raster graphic and how the software works, rgb, CMYK and all that shit, then watch a tutorial on YouTube for beginners and from then you'll be good. adobe softwares are scalable, you don't need to learn all the functions cause you can use them as tools for different things. A hammer is always a hammer but the way you use it depends on what you're working on.
Learn the structure and a bunch tools, learn the layer-shape mechanism and you're good.
Also, for small projects illustrator is way less complicated than InDesign, I'd start from there
