Why is it bait? That's the method I've used to find the cursor since I started using computers. It just works because your eye is very good at noticing motion and it doesn't require changing the cursor look or installing extra software.

There is (or used to be) a setting in windows that shows an expanding red circle around your mouse when you press ctrl, was p. cool.
