If you had to learn all three in under a year, which would you start with? Why?
>>

Java or C/C++. You want to start off with a strongly typed language.
>>
>>61277540
Thanks. Can you recommend learning material?
>>
>>61277521
Python
Because is the easiest
>>
>>61277521
I feel comfortable with java and python, so i guess i'd just get good at c++?
>>
>>61277540
>not realising python has stronger typing than C
>>
Python best:3
>>
>>61277634
It doesn't.
>>
>>61277521
Not Java for sure. It doesnt learn you anything new and you can always learn it when you need to use it.
Python is a good start, C++ is a little bit more complex but not bad either.
I would then learn a functional language like scheme or haskell. Also learning C and its assembly output is important to understand how your programs eventually will look like for the cpu.
But the most important part is to find a project in your language to get your hands dirty, like making a simple game or applet.

Ignore this poster. Functional programming languages are a meme.
>>
>>61277714
Which language has more implicit type conversions?
>>
>>61277521
java
>>
>>61277814
Why? Most multi-paradigm languages are focusing much more on FP, see python and C++. There clearly is a general trend in the industry towards FP
>>
>>61277521
All three
>>
OP here
I'm gonna start with C++, then python, then java. Chronology is comfy.
>>
>>61279475
C++ and python is a pretty good combo (not quite as good as C and python.)
>>
>>61279511
I'd start with C but, I have a year to learn all three in a year and pass a debugging test. My friend said he'd give me $5,000 and a job. He's the kind of guy who could blow that kind of cash and wants to see me succeed so I'm pretty sure he'll follow though. Even if he doesn't I'll be better off.
