For laptops that I take everywhere then 14-13 is the sweet spot, for visiting family far away I usually bring my 17 inch laptop.

whatever t420 has is pretty much the ideal size.

Small enough to still be able to put in a backpack or a bag
Large enough to use it on an everday basis as your only machine

Add to that a resolution that doesn't require scaling and you're good to go.
