Apparently some people fucked with licensing and were adding code with no label of what license it had, they somebody removed the copyright file (making it closed source?).

The GPL source release you can get here: https://github.com/brho/plan9
Theoretically you can also use the 9front iso instead of original plan9 iso to compile the GPL sources. Just don't use 9front sources for anything, especially dont mix it with GPL source.

This one seems to be based on plan9 GPL source and is logically the same licence. I don't think they have an ISO yet. They also have an 9front contributor... I just hope he didn't do something stupid like including 9front code. At least for now it looks like a good place to start.
