Does anyone remembera Tox project?
What came of it? Is it a skype killer yet?
Are devs still /g/ents or has development moved on?

Fight -> More fights -> Use of donation money by a dev to fund studies -> Breakup -> Fights -> Tox Foundation threatening the other parts with DMCA takedowns (lol)
Ring (GNU supported! + solving the privacy issue) and Matrix (Discord-like) are the new hopes.

Damn, I remember the drama at the beginning.
I guess it was the sign that it's not gonna work out.
So after a those years, still no real functional alternative.

It's actually Not Completely Deadâ„¢ and sort of usable, though progress is slow.
There's like a couple thousand users at best, but at least it's not as shitty as Skype.

I don't contribute to Tox anymore, but I watch from afar. (And even though /g/ has gone to shit a while ago I'm still here forever)

Everyone uses Discord now.
I use it a bunch (especially good for 1-on-1 video calls), but I'm migrating to Matrix (matrix.org) because you can have more than one device on at a time plus synchronised message history.

can we all agree that the idea of making a new messaging platform was visionary at the time ?
it seems all sort such platforms have flourished since then
