Go with the Asus if you can afford it. The dedicated graphics in the Mac suck. It depends on what sort of stuff you're doing with the video encoding. Ignore the 120hz display if you don't game. Dunno about the RAM. Both are good computers. You can go with a cheaper Windows laptop and get something similar to the Macbook, that 1080 is probably overkill if you don't game.

I've been looking at the same two laptops. The Asus has a gtx 1080 but the MacBook is still a MacBook.

ASUS would easily win my vote if it had 2k or 4k screen. The big fat REPUBLIC OF GAMERS text on the bezel also bothers me.

If I pick that I would be covering it up with some sort of skin or sticker. But for $2500 I really shouldn't need to do that.

DDR4 > DDR3. 120hz isnt a necessity but it makes general computing look a lot smoother. Macbooks are known to throttle. The 1080 is probably overkill. Also you can probably install macOS on the Asus one. Id buy the Asus.
