I currently own a thinkpad x201 and I was thinking of selling it and buying a t60(with the best cpu and display I can find) and upgrading it to the best of its capacities in order to install libreboot on it via the software method.
Should I do this?
Yes.
No.
Maybe.
x61 - yes.

Be advised not only do you have to have an Intel graphics board, but libreboot is super autistic about the brand/model of the LCD panel. I wouldn't bother, personally.

Thank you based /g/ you are an invaluable source of information.

sounds like a real bother. i knew about the graphics chip, which is easy to determine, but didn't know it was picky about lcd panels...

Its not bad if you win the panel lottery and get a compatible one or buy a lot of "for parts" and can cobble one together. But if you read the libreboot documentation there are more unsupported/unknown panels than ones that work.

t60p 15" with uxga... incredible. will probably have to replace fan. can upgrade cpu, or if daring swap in t61 board. i added qxga to one and it is my favorite

it's was fixed in coreboot not to long ago and might even be already pulled in libreboot but those libreboot fags rather change some words on their website a hundred time before they put out updated firmware.

is the qxga one IPS?
>>61209437
uxga is the one you can find in some t60s stock. qxga i think was not stock on t60p and you have to buy aftermarket. both are ips. I think some t43s had qxga stock.. probably hard to come by now

I know, I have a T60p UXGA
Is the core2 duo upgrade worth it?

I'll have to look into coreboot then. Thanks for the tip.
Wait for X210
