what does touch typing even mean
can't literally everyone do that?
>>
>>61200114
it means typing without looking at the keyboard.

and no, your average normie can't do that. most people hunt and peck.
>>
>>61200114
type without looking at the keyboard, and it's best to use proper form, meaning that you use 4 fingers on each hand and 1 or 2 of your thumbs, and both shift keys (left shift when pressing a right hand side key, right shift when pressing a left hand side key)
>>
>>61200119
Normie this day and age know. I'm only 20 and we learned that in grade school and I went to a small <200 school
>>
>>61200156
I call bullshit, I work with grade schoolers and the majority of them can barely use a keyboard at all, I frequently have to point out the location of keys for them because otherwise they'll never get anything done.
>>
>>61200119
But your average "norman" is someone working in an office in front of a computer and they type, really, really fast.
>>
>>61200172
you are legit a retard, that anon said he was 20, do you not think things could've changed in 10+ years?
>>
>>61200253
Mate I've been to offices. They're mostly filled with middle-aged people that are still getting to grips with the very concept of computers and type slower than anyone while squinting at the keyboard to figure out what it says.
>>
>>61199876
why is /r/mechmarket so autistic and overpriced?
>>
>>61200156
they teach it in grade school but that doesn't mean people will take it seriously and actually learn it. in fact when i was a kid i just bullshitted it with a very poor technique that still passed the typing speed test
>>
>>61200404
You actually got tested on it? In my day they just said "yeah, do the tutorials in this typing program" and left you to your own devices. No-one actually did it and there were no consequences.
>>
>>61200421
actually i don't think we got tested by the teacher and the software just had a built in test and we just played around with it and the teacher didn't check it or anything
>>
I'm a lazy fuck, so asking here. Anyone know a decent entry level full sized MKB with a good detachable wrist rest and media buttons? Or just volume control is fine. Preferably not a christmas tree or gamer faggotry-- I was eyeing the corsair k70 but it looks retarded. Logitech G610 looks fine, but is missing the wrist rest.
>>
anyone knows how do i macro my tada68 in the chink applet?

i found the macro maker part, fn key with the selector on the bottom option, i can even record my macros but they dont seem to play when i flash my keybs
thanks in advance
>>
>>61200114

If you spend a lot of time on the computer, chances are you can type blind without having learned some meme method.
>>

>>
is it normal to experience pain on the wrist while learning how to touch type? My arms are lifted and my wrist are elevated because of my arms.
>>
>>61200421
At my school they had these things that would cover the keyboard so you couldn't see the lettering on the keys
>>
>>61200461
full size?
what do you need a tkl for, goy?
perhaps a 65% would fit you, so i recommend tada68
>>
How's the Filco Majestouch 2?
>>
>>61200461
Why don't just buy additional wrist rest instead?

But be warned, if you don't like Christmas tree DON'T BUY G610. That keyboard doesn't have on-board memory and it will flash wave of LED at MAXIMUM BRIGHTNESS everytime your start up your PC.

How about Ducky One instead?
>>
>>61199876
Bought a mechanical keyboard of ebay for 15 dollars. It actually has cherry switches. Whats the scam here?
>>

why are keyboard keks so unimaginitive and bland?
where are the amazing keyboard designs, the new concept key shapes and layouts, its just D U M B that we're stuck with this piece of shit rectangle filled with square clickers. I'm not talking about those faggy keyboards split in half with a vague curve on them - I need some R E A L innovation.

>holographic, lenticular, iridescent, shiny or animated keycaps
that would look like shit lol. the appeal of fancy keycap sets is in large part to the quality and thickness of the material. it serves a functional purpose, thick keycaps feel better to use and the texture on pbt plastic lasts practically forever. but look at artisan keycaps and custom print services. they're going to do custom dye sub and not just pad print.
>>
>>61200974
Which Ducky would you recommend? Not sure what's available in Nordic layout though. Even non-red switches for a lot of manufacturers and models seem to not be in stock anywhere.

For aftermarket wrist rests, from what I've found that's easilly available where I live they mostly seem your typical "flat" and soft rests which I've tried and not liked-- I'd prefer a slanted hard surface. Mostly because of what I'm used to over the years but also my elbows are below the keyboard so having a natural slanted place for the palm is nice to keep my wrist properly straight.

That's too bad about the G610 lights, I actually like the plain aesthetic direction Logitech has been going with their more recent lineups. Why does fucking everything need lights nowadays? Even a budget mobo I ordered a while ago has retarded wavy ricer leds in it.
>>
>>61201766
The lights make your keyboard go faster.

Does anyone else often switch between two or more of their keyboards? I have two, one black in color and black as in switches and one white in color and blue as in switches.
So I switch back and fourth. The black is nice and heavy key strokes with PBT keys and matches my mouse. The white board doesnt match shit but the blues feel really good and I can never decide which I like more.
I feel like I'm being retarded and should maybe just sell one of the two or something.
>>
I hate asking this but is there a keyboard that isn't the fucking Razer Ornata that feels similar? I can't support them in good conscience but that switch is amazing. :/

Is that the "mem-chanical"?
Try the Plum keyboards on aliexpress, they come in 84 key(pic related) layout, 87, and full. Should be similar enough but you should just buy a cheap board with gateron blacks and another cheapo with gateron blues.
Gotta have tactile AND linear
>>
>>61201331
Why is it so hard to find keycaps that look like those? Not the gear ones, the regular shiny blue keys.
They look like porcelain and I really want to try them but I went through literally every keycap on ali and none of them matched.
It seems to be the most aesthetic cap.
>>
>>61205837
go on reddit's mech keyboard trading thing and sell a kidney for some sa pulse

or just beg maxkey in china to steal the colours
>>
>>61205795
do you mean the topre clone plum boards? the razer ornata switches are actually super clicky and topre isn't clicky at all
>>
>>61205880
yeah it's not just the clicky part, i LOVE the fact they "pop" back. i think it's only possible with a membrane but i'm not sure. or even a really stiff spring that i haven't experienced yet.
>>
>>61205715
maybe something with blue switches and 2mm thick o-rings
>>
>>61205896
if you put a thick rubber o-ring underneath the keycap it will be a bit similar, could try 2.5mm but it might be too thick. blue switches are usually 2mm before activation and 2mm after activation (4mm total travel) so with 2.5mm you would compress the o-ring before activation. but o-rings aren't too expensive to experiment with
>>
>>61205837
it's not a perfect match but you could try dyeing these like blue alphas and black modifiers or something

Ruined the spring on my tab key on my model m and wanna replace it with one from a key I don't need, how do I remove it withouth damaging it ?
Don't wanna buy new ones from unicomp cause shipping is like $15 to where I live.
>>
>>61202964
Finally got around to checking, seems only a few of the the popular web retailers around here have Ducky, with only two models in stock, One and Shine 6. Neither seem to have the features I want, on top of being backlit and kind of pricey.

Maybe I should just forgo aesthetics and go for one of the non-rgb K70s. Or some probably shit smaller Qpad. Seems there's not a lot of choice available. And everything seems to have RGB lighting which I guess adds a premium to the price..
>>
>>61206427
Pull up on the spring and it will pop off the flipper, put the new spring on the end of a small screwdriver e.g. torx and turn the spring and push down on to the flipper. After plenty of tries you should eventually get it perfect.

Got a picture of the beam spring in its natural environment now that I got everything home and unloaded. Eighteen bucks and change. I still can't believe it. I'll get to cleaning later, and figuring out what's wrong or missing with the controllers.

First thing I noticed about the board is it isn't a typical one you see for this type. The case is plastic and the extra legends on the keys are engraved instead of pad printed. I'll dig more into that later.

Right now, time to shower and get to bed. I'm exhausted after all the driving and moving hundreds of pounds of stuff.

blue outemu is good. not much is known about the others as not many people have tried both e.g. outemu brown and gateron brown. it was only recently that gateron got the approval of keyboard geeks and now suddenly input club is passing off kailh as high-end switches. outemu is probably underrated.

Hey so trying to program qmk, i'm following the instructions to build an enviroment setup on windows following these intructions (windows vista and later section): https://github.com/qmk/qmk_firmware/blob/master/docs/build_environment_setup.md

Keyboards with greens, whites, clears or greys can be more expensive than the standard black, brown, red, blue switches. That's basically it, if the model you're looking at doesn't increase the price it's fine.

>>

some have 6kro while others have 2kro. Also you do know 2kro doesn't mean that only 2 keys can be pressed at once. Modifiers like shift, tab, ctrl, alt, etc. don't count towards the limit, and due to the way the matrix is designed more then 2 keys can be pressed at once. On my model M I can have several 10 key combinations all pressed at the same time.

>99% of keyboards back in the 90s were 2kro and no one had issues then.
There were tons of issues. I know since I dealt with them. Nothing really kept you from playing the game you just had to know that you couldn't do somethings. Big things I remember since I played FPSes a lot would be switching weapons while going crouched or jump and moving.

I'm not really interested in a debate about it. You've either ran into the problems yourself or you're a scrub and can't understand why someone would want more than 2kro.

So any more nkro recommendations?
>>
>>61217536
just because it supports it doesn't mean all of them did. if you wanted nkro on a keyboard you have to pay 3-4x the cost of a normal one. as a result most of the keyboards back then didn't have it. Pros have been gaming on 2kro keyboards for decades now, its only recently in some modern games that 2kro isn't good enough. I know in red orchestra 2 my old dell keyboard had problems with leaning so I rebound some of the keys

Depends on where in the wrist. Do the typing wrist stretches, google them. And try to change your typing position until you find what works for you so try wrist pads and keyboard angles and make sure you're sitting in a comfortable seat. You are also developing muscle in fine motor skills that will cause soreness since you aren't used to using them and will go away the more you use them.

Chink switches have much more inconsistency due to lack of quality assurance, and Gateron is no exception. While it's not as noticeable in linear switches, it's the clicky switches where the sloppiness is pronounced due to more moving parts (i.e. the click jacket).

magicforce 68? with most other 65% keyboards, besides the short right shift you'll have a non-standard bottom row next to the arrow keys (e.g. 3x1.25+6.25+3x1.0, 3x1.25+6.25+2x1.5, 3x1.25+5.5+3x1.25, 2x1.5+7.0+2x1.5)

I'm tearing apart and cleaning a near mint beamspring right now and my 2007 Unicomp with modern factory light springs and old style heavy backplate is 95% the same experience. People make way too much a deal about variations in IBM spring switches most of the time. They are supremely fun and tactile compared to most other switches though.

On the beamspring front though. I found out why everything is engraved on the caps. They're motherfucking PBT. Never seen that on one of these before.

You can get it with a different sticker
>>
>>61225519

OK I see how I can buy the sticker by itself but not how to modify the order. Still probably just worth it to buy the sticker separately and install it.

I think this synches it for me. Still wish it were a 104-key Model F rendition, but this should be close enough.
>>
>>61225603
Just add a note or send an email with your order. They're real human beings on the other side. They'll do it for you if you ask.
>>
>>61225617
Plus Unicomp sells about four keyboards a day, so someone will probably do it for you out of boredom
>>
>>61202897
Pan-nordic layouts are absolute shit. Don't know why mechanical keyboards use that layout when it is so easy to swap out those few keys that are different. Many keyboards already come with extra gamer WASD, windows, and esc keys.

Of the ones that I've seen, Filco is the only one that offers a pure swedish layout, but I've never seen ones offer danish or norwegian ones yet. 15 years ago, having dedicated danish, norwegian, and swedish layouts used to be the norm.
>>
>>61225360
I think the one with white keys looks fine. Unicomp also has two-tone keys on their Amazon store.

Haven't noticed any rollover issues while gaming, though if it's that important they also have PS/2 connections instead of USB.

>>61225603
There are the 4704 model Fs, but those would run you about $350 total and require some modding
>>
>>61225794
what difference would ps/2 make?
>>
>>61225812
None. The 2kro is a feature of the circuitry since it's a contact membrane.

The old F's have NKRO because they're reading capacitance through a pulsed AC current instead of actual closing switches. PCB NKRO switched boards usually use diodes, different routing and lots of shift registers to get there.

Membrane can't because it's basically just traces.
>>
>>61226082
Several rubber dome keyboards have nkro. Its just that manufacturers want to save $0.70 and use 2kro
>>
>>61225013
Chinks will get instalove if they manage to pull a capacitive buckling spring switch which is also a discrete Cherry MX like switch.
>>
Kira 96 with laser gmk is going to be my end game
>>
>>61225802

Yeah I'd thought about that or a 122 key. Not intimidated by modding, but different than just plugging it in out of the box.

Still that price is the same as buying from this new production run.
>>
>>61226426
Well the model F cost almost 1000 bucks back then in todays money. The new ones have even better construction then the originals hence the $350 price tag. The reason why the 4704 is expensive is due to the fact that it was a banking terminal, and as such they are rare and hard to find. The hardest ones are the kishy keyboards and those cost 1000 bucks even today, or you can get a reproduction for 400
>>
>>61226426
You cant get a full size new production model F, and good luck finding an original F62 and F77 for that low of a price. Only 50 of them are known to exist and no one sells them for less than a thousand bucks

That's what they all say, then after a couple months of being dissatisfied with your crappy ripoff caps, you end up spending $100 on a GMK set, then $200 for a SP set.

But hey, at least the resell value for these things is pretty good. People are selling Plum right now for $180 when they were originally around $100 in the group buy.

No, modern DAS is worse than Apple. They do less and have worse build quality than comparably priced alternatives and just ride on their brand name. Unless you absolutely have to have the big volume wheel and USB 3.0 hub you can get a much better keyboard and probably for cheaper.

i have tried both, you CAN feel the roughness of a cherry brown as opposed to smooth feeling of gateron when going down. but i think everyone might be exaggerating a bit as for me I didn't mind it at all. but it's there.

Also, another reason why we suggest gateron switches is that generally, geteron boards aren't overpriced like boards with cherry switches.
