I knew it. They can't get the drivers finished in a month so it's just going to be delayed until they're complete, whenever that is.

Considering that vega is huge die and HBM2 which means $600+ price, I don't know who would wait for it and drivers to match 1080Ti at best case scenario.

It is an understatement to say that AMD has flopped on Vega. A year behind, premature drivers, delays, unimpressive performance.

This is just embarrassing.

This isn't a flop. This is an attempted backflip that results in a broken neck... And I fucking thought they would deliver, I fell for the fury x meme and told myself vega would be different.

My next card will be Nvidias Volta.

>Literally 10% ahead of 1070 on average

What the flying fuck. Do we have any confirmation about RX Vega's clock speeds compared to FE? I don't believe in magical 50% performance gain drivers from AMD, their only saving grace would be non-ref coolers which could allow them to get higher clocks. However looking back at Polaris and the fact Vega seems to be even more power hungry with FE running at 80 degrees plus with a 100% fan speed profile I honestly don't know how exactly AMD could suddenly compete with overclocked 1080 let alone Titan Xp.

>>
>>61163387
Probably performance of current Pascal line up just with hardware alone speed up by 20-30% through polished drivers.
>>
>>61163388
RX Vega with actual working drivers and non-ref coolers could probably hit 15-20% faster than it's currently going, which would place it at or above the 1080 in most cases. Problem is by the time this happens, Volta will be out in late Q1 or early Q2 2018.

>>

This isn't enough especially with meme marketing department Nvidia has.

Considering the non-linear scaling of GPU performance in 4K gaming where 1060 will be 5% behind 1070 while both cards will be 100% behind something like Titan XP (30 fps compared to 60 or 70) Vega will be literally 50% slower than Titan XP in 4k.

The CPU benchmark is a meme but I don't see the reason why reviewers shouldn't benchmark expensive GPUS in 1440p and 4k only and soon 4k only. Odds are that Volta or Volta's rebranded follow up will allow you to buy 1080 ti performance for $300. 4k 60Hz monitors are already dirty cheap. Thank god for Nvidia not dropping the ball like AMD and Intel and pretty much single-handedly bringing us into 4K as a standard go to resolution age.

We know why the performance is shit. The question is will the solution offer 20% performance gains? Highly doubtful.

So we will see the same sites benchmark 5 year old games or games that AMD has traditionally been shit at like project cars. Vega will be trashed for a year until the driver support catches up where it competes with a 2070 Volta. And AMD respins or die shrinks or maybe both and releases the new Vega while we wait for Navi. Why the fuck would AMD sell their only ace in the hole?

They just can't get both sides working together.
>>
>>61165601
We'd be better off now if Intel hadn't thrown in the towel and pushed ahead making Knights Corner into a viable consumer graphics accelerator. Intel already lost the mobile market to ARM, and they are trying to lose the AI/IoT market to Tegra/Drive PX.

>>61165628
I wasn't suggesting AMD spin off RTG, but they obviously need some kind of better capitalized partner because it's apparent Zen leeched their GPU-side dry.
>>
>>61165571
Gamework wont be as today if intel join, to bad
>>
>>61163349
Anyone buying a graphics card right now is a sucker. What are you supposed to do?
>>
>>61164164

Nah, AMD is going to be fine thanks to Ryzen and Epyc. The poo completely fucking bungled the GPU business though, he needs to be fired and replaced by a GPU Lisa Su.
>>
so vega is a official flop

350watt tdp and no faster than the outgoing fury x oc'd or the 1070?
>>
>>61165591
cheaper than a $900usd vega paperweight with no drivers and scalpers buying up whats left
>>
>>61164730
>Ryzen is a failure now

(You)
>>
>>61166360
It's a disaster unless amd deosn't squeeze 30% performance in the next month wiyhout burning down your house. Even then it would be only "acceptable" considering the delays, price and TDP.
>>
So if AMD jumps out of the GPU race... Sounds like a monopoly for NVIDIA.

Doesn't that mean poor NVIDIA gets broken up?
>>
>>61166634
RTG being sold to someone like samsung is more likely than breaking nvidia.
>>
>>61166649
>samsung
So nothing changed?
>>
>>61166675
>R&D budget up the ass
>nothing changed
>>
>>61163387
sadly not, we are in stagnation era of GPUs
can't have two good things at the same time

800mm2 and only marginal raw power increase
volta is the definition of boredom, just like pascal
probably would have to get it though since vega is a bust(for now)
>>
>>61166701
Gorillion budget, that literally blew up your own creation.
Why even bother creating Fermi 2.0?
>>
>>61166649
say goodbye to discreet GPU if that ever happens
but you all overestimating RTG operating costs

all money AMD had it poured into zen core, graphics division pretty much kept cpu side alive
RTG makes it's worth back, specially now with mining craze
>>
>>61166739
>No competition and mining will keep rising the price of GPU in the future now.
What a time to be alive
>>
>>61166758
I wouldn't be so hasty, they made maybe 20k FEs
and all of them probably sold already, it is better than p4000 and can offer decent dual purpose performance that current titan can't

FE has a niche, how vega arch performs without buffered memory and with gaming drivers that at least somewhat work still anybody guess
>>
>>61166811
FE doesn't use ECC. It's a turd.

wew, okay I give up
thanks amd, at this point i'm even starting to think that getting 1070 range card from nvidia every two years is a good deal, feels disgusting
>>
>>61166456
>It's a disaster unless amd deosn't squeeze 30% performance in the next month

The problem with this logic is that you're talking about 30% performance over THIS card, which is already going to be higher clocked than the consumer card which is just a cut down of this version. So the consumer card is going to be nerfed down in performance and THEN need to squeeze out more than 30% to compete.

>AMD releases a gpu family with super shit gaming performance
>still sells out every unit they can make because they mine cryptocurrency much better than nvidia cards

You all know this is what will happen.
>>
>>61166892
Vega is shit miner. Currently 1070 beats it.
>>
>Fiji is between a 1060 and 1070 in performance
>Vega is barely above a 1070

No fucking way this is true, I absolutely refuse to believe AMD shit the best this hard. We're missing something. How can it even be possible that Vega is under-performing this much? Why would AMD even bother releasing it?

Are the drivers actually going to help it? When I heard the performance was bad I wasn't expecting this bad.

AMD driver strike again

guess I'll wait for navi
>>

It's literally running as a Fiji card, almost none of the new features are enabled despite being implemented on silicon

>I fell for the Fury X meme
I did too. I did too.
>Overclockers dream!
Not in the slightest. Fuck, I ended up ripping (quite literally, due to one screw) the cooler off and putting a custom block on there because while playing Ashes of the Singularity, it would hit up to 61c. As soon as it was on a custom loop, even with an i7 4790k @ 4.6, it only ever hits 42c at the very most.

I was hoping Vega would be a good upgrade, though I wouldn't have bought it unless it was truly spectacular. Thing is, if Vega was good, it would've meant that Navi would've been even better... now I don't know what to think.

Intel has been trying GPUs for 20 years, you have no idea about what you're talking about
i740 was a massive failure, despite being made from buying one of the leading graphics companies from the early 90's
GMA had the performance of a 1997 TNT in 2007
Larrabee was so shit in 2008 that Nvidia engineers at SIGGRAPH laughed at it looking like a 2005 GPU despite the billions Intel poured into R&D'ing the thing
Sandy Bridge/HD Graphics couldn't even do compute despite being a massive redesign of their previous iGPs and basically being oversized FPU/SSE units
Skylake can barely compete with AMD on iGPs despite having a ridiculously expensive eDRAM slab and being made on a node 3 generations ahead from AMD products
Intel it's so shit at GPUs that the only decent graphics solution based on Intel products was made by a third party, SGI using another one of their abortions, the i860 found on SGI's Reality Engine
>>
>>61166709
>Pascal is boredom

I don't get this. Pascal to Maxwell is exactly what Maxwell was to Kepler. a 1080 consumes less power than a 980 Ti while being faster. I know it's /g/ and all but I'm getting really tired at people shitting at Nvidia for 7 year old memes when they're the ones who aren't shitting the bed releasing same GPU 3 times with the only difference being a $30 price drop.
>>
>>61166970
What is Fury X? AMD fell for the HBM meme not once but twice. Those cards costed as much as 980 Ti while sometimes being only slightly faster than 980.
>>
>>61162547
DOA
>>
>>61167949
So that's what a Fury X is? Thanks for explaining.
>>
>>61166872
How cut down are we talking about here? I thought RX Vega was just going to be FE Vega w/o workstation drivers and maybe 25 watt lower TDP.
