>Chilling with friends
>2 of them leave room
>One of them is a tech intern and has a company laptop
>Laptop currently open
>Go on pornhub and leave a shemale tab open, didn't actually click a video
>Initially think it's fucking hilarious
>He freaks out thinking it might get him fired
>I freak out cause I never wanted to hurt anyone.
>Singlehandedly ruin evening with my autism

What are the chances that I screwed my friend over, when he isn't on company time, not on the company network or VPN? I tried to say that they can't monitor internet browsing if they don't have access through the company network, but I'm not really sure. Could the laptop have come with a program that logs internet traffic on other networks?
>>
On a tangent, yes my sense of humor is that of a 14 year old.

>Could the laptop have come with a program that logs internet traffic on other networks?
Let's say it's true, why does the company have anything to do with what he does in his personal time?
>>
He deserves getting fired for not locking the computer safe as he leaves the computer there open.
>>
>>61150820
If he ever gets called up on it, He can simply claim that you were the cause of his problem.
>>
>>61150863
Those comps are not given for irrelevant use.
>>
if you're not on the company network the chances are very small
>>
>>61150863
Well, it is a company computer, perhaps they want it back at some point, and they dont want the keyboard returned sticky. Just kidding.

Perhaps they might look into browsing habits when hiring to judge if he was productive, and HR disapproves of what they find?

The other thing that comes to mind is that if they do find out about it, he has to explain his way out. If he says that his friend did it, then that means he was careless with a computer that had access to confidential code. Most interns sign non-disclosure agreements don't they? Wouldn't that in a way violate the agreement?
>>
>>61150885
>Sorry sir my friends decided to prank me
Case fucking closed.
>>
What would be the best way to go about this?

Asking the IT guy "Hey... Do you guys see all our browsing history?"

Ignoring the fact that it happened and hope it never comes into question?
>>
>>61150820
No one in IT cares. Your friend is a moron.
>>
>>61150868
basically this
I would fire him instantly for neglecting security
>>
>>61150935
>leaving a company laptop logged in when you're not in front of it
Fired
>violating data security
Fired
>>
>>61151118
>>61150868

A company that allows its laptops to leave the premises and does not automatically block websites cant be that strict.
>>
>>61151146
They let their employees take the laptops outside work environment with them. He's a fucking intern. What kind of data security are you babbling about?
>>
>>61151163
If he has access to the VPN for home use, then he probably has access to confidential information.
>>
>>61150992
IT guy here

Yes we can but we dont care unless a manager tells us to

He needs to lock his computer though
>>
>>61151171
Do you mean if a manager says "look out specifically for this guy's browsing data?"

Or do you mean if a manager says "look out specifically for any websites that are questionable?"
>>
>>61151163
The kind where you lock your computer when working on the company vpn.

The kind where you dont leave it unattended in a public place

The kind where you signed a contract that enforces the idea that you may be held personally liable for breaches due to negligence.

These things come into play when you become a little more senior than 'graduate burger flipper' at fuckdonalds
>>
Thank God it was tranny porn. In this day and age no HR department is going to want to touch that with a 10 ft pole. He'll never hear about it, if he does he just needs to shout "transphobic" till he gets a promotion.
