Why haven't you hackintoshed yet, /g/?

It is literally the best of both worlds, you have the customisability and the Unix shell of Linux and you have the compatibility of popular software (like adobe) like on Windows. All on a PC.

I did, but the compatibility is shoddy with my stuff because I didn't specifically build my system around it. Shit breaks almost every time I update.

I'm mostly just living on my Windows partition right now because of vidya anyway. Next build is going to be built around having this as an option though.

Download a premade "distro" (which comes with everything needed for OS X but also probably comes with a keylogger preinstalled). Install on a virtual machine. Use said VM to prepare the files for a clean vanilla install on your hackintosh.

You can buy the latest model of the Macbook Air for a thousand euro's. Or a Mac Mini for 600 euro.
It'll serve you for years and there's literally not a thing you can't do with it. So why would you ever settle for a mediocre self-built system?
>>
>comparing the superior BSD unix to the bad structured linux
>>
>>61137386
Because 1k for an Air is fucking insane (500-600 for an used one is bearable but most people don't want to buy used shit) and Mac Mini isn't powerful enough for some people.

>>61137432
A lot of people have 600/700 euro phones in their pockets and buy a new model every 1,2 year.
For all the support you're getting 1k really isn't that expensive. Also there are few things a Mac Mini can't handle.
Inb4 muh VM's, video editing. No you won't use your hackintosh for that purpose either because the graphical performance of those machines are way worse. A lot of respected programmers and researchers use the Macbook Air. People like Linus Torvalds and in the past Ian Murdock.
>>
>>61133719
Because me not have autism
>>
>>61137564

>>
>>61137603
If you do not have a chip in your system that Apple doesn't use in their machines you graphical performance won't be any good. If you do the money you'll save is minimal as countless people have shown before.
>>
>>61133719
No PCI-e passthrough.

If I had a third GPU to use, I'd run it as a VM and use it as my daily OS, but I don't, so I won't.
>>
>>61137503
They usually get their phones with contracts.

Besides, it's not as much the price as what you get for it. For thousand bucks you get a laptop with a fucking 900p screen, in 2013+4. yeah it shits on all the other Windows laptops but it's still a fucking rip off when there are much, much better options for 200-300 bucks more, but when you go there, it's suddenly quite a bit cash for poorfags. Besides, the new macbooks got too modern ports for most people who still got USB A crap, which again means more spending for adapters.

>the graphical performance of those machines are way worse.
It's not. If anything it can be better. Specially than a fucking Mac Mini.

>A lot of respected programmers and researchers use the Macbook Air. People like Linus Torvalds and in the past Ian Murdock.
GRRMartin uses some DOS shitbox. Personal preferences of different people built on familiarity is a shitty argument. Air was by far the best small laptop since 2010 or so, it's not surprising that some people got used to it and don't look for better options. For a new buyer the situation is different.

HPET
PM Timer

PCI:
host bridge

I've been using it for like 2 months now, but setting my R9 390 took a long ass time. I had to extract my gpu bios rom and use 2 programs to extract useful information out of then, then I had to use another program to get some shitty framebuffer data (Baladi) out of some kext and edit that and then use clover configurator to apply the patches . It's a bit complicated, but there's a nice guide http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/303186-how-to-modification-of-amd-fb-clover-injection/
.
Before that, i used like 4 kext patches (so that it actually works and doesn't crash on Safari when u try to watch videos or play certain types of sounds) to make my HD 4600 working along with Intel Inject.
To make ur 390 working after that with Sierra, u have to set ur IGPU as the primary and disable any kind of windows support shit on your mobo so that it doesnt automatically switch to your gpu, and I had to enable both ATI and Intel inject so that there was no second display with the shitty 7mbs or whatever of gpu memory and no proper framebuffer. I didn't have to do that on El Capitan back then, but atleast I don't have fucking black screen crashes.

I went the opposite route and just installed Linux on my Macbook air. I can't stand the Mac window manager (cmd-tabbing only shows one window per program, closing a program leaves it running half the time, you cant maximize a window without it taking up the full screen. Also, package management is shit. Not nearly as shit as Windows, mind you, but still not as good as apt. Oh, and it's retarded how it wont let me remap hotkeys.

>>61138969
While window management aspect is subjective (there are programs like amethyst tho), closing a window keeping the program running and true maximizing are the objectively right ways of program management.

i'd rather use homebrew than apt, even on linux.
And i'm sure it does let you remap hotkeys as seen there -> >>61133903

I use it on my laptop, which is an actual Mac. It's ok but there's nothing I do with it that I can't do on my Debian desktop. I think I like both systems equally. Boty run Sublime Text, GCC, GIMP, Libre Office, QEMU, and a recent enough version of Bash. Both can use SSH, both can run Firefox for shitposting with all my favorite extensions.

Those are a few of the keyboard shortcuts I use frequently. Trackpad gestures are cool too but you'd have to buy an Apple trackpad for it if you're on a desktop. I think it's worth it though.

It's macOS. Hackintosh supports anything that's Apple hardware the same way the official thing does.

Also I already use hackintosh, been using it for a year. It's fucking great, I think people need to take more time to get used to it.
>>
I'm pretty luke warm on OS X generally. I've used it a few times in the past but I can't say that it's exactly grabbed me. Some things are just harder to do on a mac and it just gets in the way of my workflow. I think it's a decent operating system but I prefer to run GNU/Linux
>>
>>61140148
it's just linux
>>
Things I like about hackintosh:

>Runs actually pretty decent on dated hardware (I have some cheap budget haswell build)
>Plenty of software available
>No fucking around with much of anything, maybe because I happen to have compatible hardware which again, was cheap shit commonly available
>Better on the GUI department than anything
>Makes a trackpad useful
>Looks great by default
>Probably the most stable OS I've had in a few years
>Parallels gives me some mad performance

Things I don't like about it
>Not a lot of customization
>Slow with some tasks
>Lack of games and the games it supports, unless they run on a toaster run slower (sometimes even half the framerates). At times shit will run faster under Parallels than natively which is a bit funny
>Some retarded shit like the shortcut for showing and hiding files
>That I truly expect to have to wait almost half a year for High Sierra to be usable because they will surely take measures against Hackintoshing
>That the only reason I can disable mouse acceleration on my mouse for free is because Steelseries has mac support
>More forced to buy stuff that's compatible
>I don't feel any more secure than on Windows
>Emulation not as good
>Pages doesn't have multiple text selection, what the fuck?
>Safari only plays webbums on a separate tab

>>61140780
>One update that is incompadible and your machine is dead

One year updating Sierra and not a single problem.

It all depends on your hardware and your method of installation. Some people are stuck thinking hackintosh is this buggy nonsense from 2010 or niresh builds.
