would a github/linkedIn profile suffice? I really hate facebook and want to delete mine, but I've heard many employers do a background check on things such as facebook. Theres not a lot to see in my account, but many people say a lack of it could raise suspicion

For programming and design, you definitely need to have your portfolio hosted somewhere, but not necessarily on social media. And people claim LinkedIn is good but I never used it.
