Currently have 190 USD, and I'm planning on getting a new modem. Any suggestions on what would be fast while not going over 190?

190 for just the modem?

Yeah, im pretty poor, so thats as much as i have for a new one
100 for a modem is too much, idkwtf you are wanting to spend 190 on it for.

We're not a consumer review site, please consider typing the following into google;
>Best fast modem 2017
Read 3-4 reviews and pick one that appears consistently in the top tier that is also in your price range.
Now, here's the real magic - you can apply this to anything you want. all you need to do is replace "fast modem" with your desired product.

OP doesn't really seem to understand that it's the internet plan he gets that determines the speed of his internet and not just the modem
He didn't even say whether he needs to get a cable modem or DSL modem.
He probably also assumes the modem is a wireless router too.
(it isn't, btw, if you're reading this OP)

I got my modem used (an ARRIS SURFboard SB6121) for $40, and my router (an ASUS RT-N66U) for $125, and set them once and never had a problem since for the past 2 years.
I will never again get an "all-in-one" modem
I have had many bad experiences from the models the ISPs forced on me both, AT&T and Time Warner (now Spectrum).
Since you say you're poor you obviously aren't going to get a 100 mbps plan, and you really need to check in with your ISP to see which modems are compatible with their services, DOCSIS 3.0 was the standard when I bought mine.
