I control everything, no more need of 3rd party email provider or hosting, full disk encryption and anonymity over TOR and I can access my files everywhere with ownCloud

I've got a couple mounted in 1u rack mount cases modded from broken cobalt/sun servers, front panel LCD, buttons and leds all functional via gpio - a cluster of 9 pi2s with a 5" display and very cute nekopara interface, all for shits and giggles. Currently I'm making a motion sensitive camera for taking wildlife pictures at a place I do conservation work.

nothing massively cool, but I've had fun

I got a pi zero w that I wanted to use a downloader but that piece of shit can't even power a USB hub. It's really only good for low level IoS garbage, and for that you can buy chinkchips for a dollar instead of shelling out 15 times as much for a pi.
>>
>>61111582
check the orangepi official site on aliexpress and sort by price/features you need/whatever

gigabit and USB 3.0 would be great. but since 3.0 is barely anywhere, i need at least a gigabit speed to transfer my files around
>>
>>61112114
>USB 3.0
Odroid XU4 has 2 of these and Gb Ethernet. But it's around 50$ not counting peripherals and imho it's not as good as C2.
>>
>>61112114
Try the OPi PC2 for GbEthernet then i guess.

There's an Odroid with usb 3.0 and an OPi with a sata2 port but both cost around $60.

also the banana pi has a sata port too but no idea about that one
>>
>>61109428
Orange pi does 4k30fps 265 hw decode will it do 1080p60fps?
>>
Used mine to unlock a couple of laptop UEFI/BIOS passwords. Before that it was a media streaming box with OpenELEC.

Thinking of using it for interacting with a deaddrop, or maybe setting up a PirateBox somewhere. It's the first generation model B with a measly 256 MB of RAM, so that also limits things somewhat.

Would love to have a more powerful x86 SBC, but those tend to be on the more expensive side, and I've already got a NUC which pretty much fills that niche.
>>
Hey guys so I am wanting to use small board rpi/opi and have a minecraft server on it, only I will be using it with future of someone other people using it, 3 max. since people are recommending orange pi for the gigabit ethernet (which I am waiting for cat 7 cable to get routed to my room since we have gigabit internet) how does the orange pi pc2 perform against raspberry pi 3?
>>

Depends on the phone, but usually a tablet charger would be better (higher amperage)
Most xiaomi phones provide a 2A charger, which is suitable for the Zero as long as you don't attach a fuckton of peripherals to it.
>>
>>61112781
Yes, I'm running mine off a 2A phone charger.

It is powering up the 2TB HDD connected via USB as well.
>>

Odroid XU4 has USB 3.0 ports.
BananaPi R2 has USB 3.0 ports. But it's more server/networking oriented.
So pick between Odroid and BananaPi. They both have a Gigabit Ethernet (BPI has 5 ports).
For other boards with gigabit Ethernet look at this pic >>61109428. It's a bit outdated so there are boards missing.

>>
btw: i have a computer with a USB HUB and lots of HDDs connected to it (all 3.0 of course)
normally i'm thinking of sacrificing one or two HDDs for the SBPC and transfer all the data it downloads to the main computer through LAN (hence gigabit and USB 3.0 would be very welcome) but maybe there's a better way to connect both computers and maintain high speeds?

While SBCs with USB3.0 are rare, an alternative could be a SATA port but they cost about the same as the boards with usb3.0.

The cheapest alternative with gigabit Ethernet would be >>61111426, but you will be held back by the usb 2.0. Pick your poison.
>>
>>61113261
why oh why nobody made a proper 2.1? would be a lot more bearable than 2.0
and of course gigabit ethernet and 3.0 work perfectly with each other in terms of transfer speed but barely any SBPC has it together
should i just wait until they become cheap/USB 3.0 becomes more standard or squeeze out more munny and buy what's available now?
>>
>hooked it up to a long-range wifi antenna
>poorfag rural internet access
>>
>>61113484
What adapter/style of antenna are you using?
>>
>>61113430
Just recheck your needs and see if it's worth it or not. I use my OPi Zero that doesn't even have gigabit ethernet on a daily basis and that's fine for me.

Then again my upload speed is only 40Mbps and i rarely transfer big files between my LAN.
>>
>>61113549
well, transfering a 3digit GiBs of data through USB 2.0 and 100mb/s LAN will be a real pain in the ass
>>
>>61113528
Parabolic. Buy a TL-ANT2424b, an N-to-RPSMA cable, some mounting solution, and a USB wifi adapter with removable antenna. Install DietPi and NetworkManager then hook up eth to some router's WAN port.

I get 10Mb down/2Mb up when connecting to a restaurant across the lake.

I don't pay my own electric bill now- and by virtue of this my landlord breathes down my neck about power usage. Unless it's USB 3.0 then you won't get performance boost.

Make sure the adapter is Gigabit Ethernet.
Also before buying it test out the internal wifi adapter, I could be wrong since the laptop have USB 3.0 port that would mean you might have a decent WiFi adapter.

to do the programming work over ssh and the display pugged into the pi? pretty straight froward to be honest, that's how I did it

to get the interface showing over ssh? that would be something else - probably x-forwarding - but to be honest If i was looking to to control/monitor something like that remotely with a pretty interface I'd go straight for html and do a webui.
