This problem exists for Java on Gentoo actually. Because of license restrictions, you can't directly link to the download of the tarball so when you attempt to install it through portage, it automatically errors out and gives you instructions on what webpage to go to, what file to download, and where to save it to.
Not really a GNU/Linux problem though. Blame Oracle.
