Windows did the big ones for you with the library folders, use those and sort them accordingly

1) give your folders incredibly unrelated and unhelpful names. for example, i just made one that was "gh" repeated couple of times with a square bracket at the end
2) try and remember where you put your shit
that's all there is to it. to have even more fun, give your files stupid fucking names so searching for them can be potentially harder

use categories.
If I have more than 10 directories, I divide them into categories.
Say you have a directory where all your work is being kept.
All the projects is in different directories.
At some point, you get too many directories, so you move the finished projects.

/pictures/g
/pictures/r9k
or
/pictures/4chan/board

etc...

Then I separate by categories:
