iOS 10 saved my old iPhone 5S, it was slow as fuck and bloated before. APFS worked wonders. Don't forget that NAND performances goes down the toilet when close to full capacity. Most people complaining about a slow phone during suspiciously timed upgrade periods just have thousands of photos and videos and a shitload of apps and app data. On top of that, they got the smallest memory size.
