I'm so fucking tired of hiding. I'm sick of being paranoid.

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

I'm so fucking tired of hiding. I'm sick of being paranoid. I hate the way that the internet is set up. I just want privacy but also usability. I just want privacy and security without having to sacrifice everything else I love about technology.

I just want to go back to 2005 man. I just wanna go back to a simpler time, before all this.

Does anyone feel the same?

don't worry, man, the NSA doesn't care about your hentai stash

t. NSA agent with hentai stash
>>

I never gave a fuck then, somehow I'm still fine. Go figure
>>
Lol chill out. You're crazy.
>>
>>61036474
it was always like this
>>
>>61036480
>don't worry, man, the NSA doesn't care about your hentai stash
then why the fuck would they acknowledge it or keep record of its existance nigger.
he doesn't care about what the NSA claims to not care about, he cares about his fucking privacy.
>>
>>61036480
This is what an NSA agent with a hentai stash wants you to think

If it makes you feel any better, I am building a search engine (wibr.me) that will make you feel like you're back in 2005, because it mainly indexes html 1.0 sites. I hate the bloated crap we have today and google is only good at finding answers to technical questions, but we've lost the fun of web surfing.
>>
>>61036474
The CIA wants to control the thoughts in your head, that's why they follow me around everywhere
>>

cool

i searched arch linux
stallman's homepage was in the results
it werks!
>>
>>61036474

Imagine this except your boss is former NSA.

My life is hell.
>>
I do miss the days when online communities were separate from one another, each its own little bubble in the darkness.
>>
>>61036480

I want control over who gets to see my data.

There NSA has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are not to be trusted. Their word is garbage. Lies and deceit are the only language they know.

I hope you rot in hell with the knowledge that you work for an agency that has built history's biggest road to hell with your good intentions. A road that may very well be used as a political tool before the end of this administration because you greedy children don't care who gets hurt as long as you get to have fun.
>>
You've seen nothing yet.
Next step is Musk's brain chip.
https://neuralink.com/

They will put botnet into our brains.
If you will refuse, you will be unemployable and seem like a retard, because other people will be able to Google stuff with their thoughts, instantly.

You first, creepy-as-fuck NSA voyeurs. With all the webcam snapshots you get from Optical Nerve, you must have the world's largest stash of child pornography.

Kill yourself NSA. I'd prefer a handful of child pornographers over the existential threat to Democracy that is your mass surveillance machine.
>>
>>61036474
But all this was happening in 2005 too, anon.

>>61038436
I want to hit that cat with a shovel. Nothing on Earth should be allowed to be that adorable
>>
Alot of this will self fix when web 2.0 dies. Between that and the the retreat of advertising from the internet the NSA will care a lot less when the normies move away from it
>>
>>61038454
Nice historical revisionism, NSA.

Go fuck yourself you literal parasite.
>>
>>61038544
You don't understand how government agencies work. The whole goal of every agency is to get larger and spend more money so they can get kickbacks from the companies they overpay to do shit for them. They all are just there to make essentially slush funds to steal tax payers money. They never get smaller or go away.
>>
>>61038617
I in no way agree with the NSA shit but this was all definitely happening in 2005. They have been collecting meta data since Nokia's. Just pointing out the flaw in OP's logic.
>>
>>61038275
Ok hold up, we need to know more. Does he snoop on you?

let me take you to a magical place called debian

You say that until you get out from your mom's basement and start a family of your own. Then you'll be more concerned about the state working for your kids' safety than about some tinfoil conspiracy bullshit.

This is exactly what I want.
I would really like to talk to you and know more.

Internet metadata in bulk? No they weren't. Even the Snowden docs say it didn't happen until later.
>>
>>61038669

He often listens in on conversations I'm having with coworkers. He's not a bad person but he doesn't see anything wrong with Mass Surveillance.
>>
>>61038691

I don't need you to tell me how to raise my kids you subhuman parasite. At no point do I ever see the NSA as doing anything remotely approaching providing safety for me and my family.
>>
>>61036760

I just wish I didn't have to choose between a politician who wants to fuck every privacy right in existence in the name of public "security", and a politician who wants to import poo in loos by the boat load because diversity is the magical cure to every problem.

You don't have to do that. If you're picking one of the big two because everyone else does you're part of the reason we're basically stuck with a two party system in the first place.
>>
>>61036474
I feel you.

Too bad normies don't know or don't care

Someone who loves technology is either a lier or a moron.
There will never be a 100% private thing as long as you involve other people in it.
You can use free software and setup your own servers and opt out of the bad design this way.

Simply setting up a server that does the thing you want to do and writing it down can help out more people.
Something like gmail, facebook and dropbox should never have been a thing and they only happened because free software is not good enough on the server market.
Something as simple as setting up an email server is still very complex and any guides on how to do it gets outdated.
Setting up a file server is really simple and rather cheap, but the gratis factor means you push other people into using the same service.
Setting up a blog is also either too difficult or too costly for people to do it, and why bother with apache or nginx if you can just sign up and everything works?

On the desktop, it is fairly easy to live with free software.
Some jobs depend on specific programs rather than a tool to do a task and those people need to sacrifice their freedom when they work and I honestly think this is fine. It only becomes a problem when your work forces you to use your personal computer at work, but working for poor people is always bad.

> I hate the way that the internet is set up

it's time to think about all the closed source firmware blobs running on your computer
it's time to think about the closed source microcode running on your closed source processor

it's time to let go of all delusions of control
your crypto/privacy could be compromised on every conceivable level if you are using commercial products

and if you roll your own hardware/software, you probably fucked something up
>>
>>61039271
I often hear this point being made as an argument against trying to use free software at all.
There is a lot of work that needs to be done, but you can start where it makes sense.
GNU was written on a proprietary OS.
>>
>>61036760

dude this is fucking killer

I consider the internet to have undergone a sort of urbanization process - from days of many smaller communities to present e-metropolises.

Cool glimpse back in time.
