This happened to me yesterday
>install Linux mint
>no audio
>install pulseaudio because the default audio manager is trash (go figure)
>says everything is unplugged
>the monitor I'm using has built in speakers so this is literally impossible
>it's HDMI btw
>try to get back to windows through boot menu
>select SSD with windows on it
>boots into Linux mint again anyway
>reboot like 10 times
>finally get into windows
>completely format the drive Linux mint was on
What distro should I try next? Looking for one that is sophisticated enough to handle a 6+ year old monitor with built in speakers that windows handles flawlessly

Install CloverOS

Filthy streetshitter shill, I saw you posting the same shit early today.
>>
>>61032865
Yeah I made a thread yesterday and it was still up this morning when I woke up
>>
>>61032861
What does CloverOS offer other than le 4chan memes?
>>
>>61032841
Ubuntu, Solus, openSUSE. Idk what your problem is tho, my 6 yo TV works flawlessly with Ubuntu, which Mint is based on.
>>
>>61032930
reddit memes
>>
>>61032948
Why are people even working on it? As a joke? Seems like a lot of effort to put into a joke OS
>>61032942
I was thinking either Fedora, Ubuntu or openSUSE to try next. I'm just trying to rid myself of the microsoft jew and mint has left a bad taste in my mouth (no pun intended)

- It's a pre-riced Gentoo Linux system with minimal changes.
- Pre-riced binary package repo
- Fast & low ram usage
- 100% Poetterfrei distro, no systemd or pulseaudio
- Has the configurability and stability of Gentoo
- Easy to use if you start up a DE
>>
>>61032972
Good point, thanks for the bump
>>61032973
So basically it's Gentoo but more noob-friendly and made by /g/? I'm not going to pretend I'm a techwizard or anything, I just want linux because I don't like windows as a company
>>
>>61032985
>So basically it's Gentoo but more noob-friendly and made by /g/?

Yep. It's basically Gentoo with the setup done for you. You can read more here https://github.com/chiru-no/cloveros

>>61033000
Thanks, that actually sounds pretty cool

how much federal botnet does it contain?

Ah, so none. Perfect! I know you said CloverOS is easy to use, but would it be good as a first linux for a noob?
>>61033040
I know what it is and I know that you didn't sage. I can monitor bumps on 4chan X.
>>
>>61033050
>would it be good as a first linux for a noob?

I don't see why it wouldn't be. You can ask questions in #cloveros or /cosg/
>>
>>61032967
Fedora is only worth if you want GNOME, and GNOME is unstable shit. You'll get errors on boot most of the time and the UI is gigantic as fuck. It's not as compact as Unity.
Ubuntu is the best way to go as a newcomer. It's debian base means most normie shit is supported. There are many flavors of Ubuntu, each with a different DE. I recommend KDE since Unity is abandoned.
openSUSE is more of a poweruser OS. It's amazing but has too many enterprise bloatware features which you probably don't need. If you think you do then go ahead and try this OS (prepare for a 4.7GB download). Again, go with KDE on this one. They also have guides on how to set up pretty much anything you'd like. Also, Gecko Linux exists which is apparently openSUSE done right for desktop use.
>>61033050
Avoid gentoo and cloverOS.
>>
>>61033060
Cool, I'm making a live disk of it now. Thanks man
>>

What makes you say that?
>>
>>61033072
>he fell for the avoid gentoo meme

install gentoo
>>
>>61033083
It's not for beginners at all.
>>
>>61032973
too bad its shitty rice and bloat
>>
>>61032973
What's wrong with pulseaudio?
>>
>>61033094
Gentoo was one of my first distros, I was able to install it using the handbook just fine.
>>
>>61033072
If I was to get Kubuntu, should I get the LTS or 17.04?
>>
I have a feeling you screwed something up when you installed GRUB. Some installers are unclear about whether you should install it to the drive or to a specific partition.
>>
Bad news my friend... I'm on the live disk right now for kubuntu 17.04 and still no audio. Guess I'll have to stick with (((windows)))
>>
I wonder if KDE is the problem somehow
Maybe they'll come out with an update someday to support this groundbreaking 6 year old monitor
>>
>>61033504
>legacy support
Doubt.
>KDEs fault
Doubt.

Now apparently Grub is only showing Linux Mint which I formatted this morning and I cannot get into windows... What the absolute fuck?

apt install os-prober && update-grub

>>
>>61033504
Did you go into system settings and change the hardware profile to output through HDMI instead of the default analog out? That's how I get KDE to play on HDMI instead of my laptop speakers.
>>
>>61034872
i've tried update-grub and it just says "/usr/sbin/grub-probe: error: failed to get canonical path of `aufs'."

This is the precise moment where you fucked up.

Stop pooing in the street and use the non-shat on version of Mint and Ubuntu commonly known as Debian.

If you can't configure Debian, you are hopeless and should consider Mac.

kubuntu did the same thing

Did you overwrite / fail to shrink your Windows partition before installing Linux?

If so, you probably just nuked all of Windows and everything you had in it.

Next time learn to write a fucking partition table.
>>
>>61035056
i don't use partitions, windows is on an SDD. linux mint was on an HDD
>>
>>61035048
>Kubuntu is a great operating sy-

*stop error, entire PC reboots*
>>
>>61035064
Boot into Windows, download a Debian iso and run it.

Wipe the Mint partition and replace.
>>
>>61035091
the mint HDD was formatted. i can't boot into windows because grub only shows mint
>>

i hacked your webcam. sorry
>>

>>
>>61035107
Holy shit. Then just reinstall Mint off an ISO maybe?

Avoid GRUB. Boot off a disc or something else.
>>
>>61035141
i'm going to attempt installing kubuntu where mint used to be
>>
>>61035170
I'd go with Debian, honestly, m8.

If it HAS to be Ubuntu, I find Xubuntu to have better performance, and I remember getting stop crashes all the time on KDE.
>>
>>61035202
all i have access to right now is a kubuntu live disk since i can't boot into anything else
