Suppose there is an employee in a train station working on their laptop. They notice that their train is leaving in ten minutes. They power down their laptop.
Windows pushed a mandatory update due to a security threat detected on a totally different network on the other side of the planet. The update is particularly lengthy, and it tells the employee of the company to not power down the computer, due to the risk of data corruption.
The employee ends up missing the train for fear of losing WiFi connection and messing up the update, causing them to miss an important meeting with a client. The client cancels a contract, costing the company millions.
Microsoft is legally responsible for the damages to the company by forcing an update on their own customer and incurring a massive inconvenience that resulted in devastating financial loss.
It's definitely their fault that it happened, but there's probably a hundred sections of the license agreement that waves any responsibility no matter what.
I hate windows as much as the next guy but
>implying anyone shuts down instead of sleep
>working on your laptop in the train station
why
If they're running the laptop on battery why would they need to shut down?
Install GNU/Linux. Problem avoided.

You don't need to maintain an internet connection to complete an update you fucking dumbass. Windows downloads the entire update and then installs it.

This is correct

Windows doesn't update on battery.
>for fear of losing wifi and messing uo the update
It doesnt inatall an update till its already downloaded so you wouldnt need to worry about this

windows is not responsible for the health of your laptop, read the contract. they could knowingly give instructions that set fire to computers and not be liable

>millions
even if they didnt have insurance, Microsoft could still take that hit without a problem
