Hey bros, I'm looking to build a 8 Core system based on x99.

What are some good parts to get? Since x99 supports Xeons too, are they recommended or Intel i7 8 core ones?

They need to be something I can get used off eBay. I have RAM and everything just need mobo + cpu.

No ryzen pls, need QuickSync (Intel only).
>>
Is quick sync worth 1000 dollars to you? Why not just buy the x299 chipset and housefire-x for cheaper?

Isn't one of the 8 cores like $389 on the new ones? That one looks yummy...but x299 mobos are like $300 or some shit.

I figured i could get used x99 for cheap!

>>61020286
God damn they're uncanny.
>>
>>61020220
Why not get a cheaper processor and motherboard and use GPU encoding?
>>
>>61020310
>Intel
>8 core
>$389
The fuck are you smoking, and where can I get some?
>>
>>61020310
I wouldn't buy a used x99 motherboard frankly. I wouldn't buy a used motherboard in the first place.
>>
I would just buy threadripper.
>>
>>61020349
I have a 4core and it's not enough to handle large video streams. (4790k)

>>61020349
The specific applications I use need more than 4 cores (stream editing)

>>61020368
Sorry I meant 6 core.

>Used motherboard
Why not??

I've bought used Xeon CPUs before without an issue (albeit they came out of a server and they never OC those)
>>
>>61020404
Need QuickSync (specific application I use uses it to encode video 6x faster than realtime).
>>
>>61020433
Well every x99 board ive seen has reviews of dimm slots not working. Also somebody would be running a 5820k or something and never update their bios and you be fucked if you bought a broadwell or Skylake x. It would just be a major hassle to me.
>>
>>61020443
Get a new application or write your own grandpa. The future is now.
>>
>>61020492
How do you mean?

7800x or 7820x would be $600 just for CPU, add another $300 for board....it's bad.

>>61020508
I'm 27 you fucking nigger.
>>
sad bump :(

If I go x299 + 7800x...is that ok?
>>
>>61021057
Also what's a good mobo brand? I always get Asus.
>>
https://ark.intel.com/Search/FeatureFilter?productType=processors&CoreCountMin=8&FamilyText=Intel%C2%AE%20Xeon%C2%AE%20Processors&SocketsSupported=FCLGA2011-3

This link has all the 8+ core, socket 2011-3 xeons intel made.
Most of them are probably supported on most X99 motherboards, but you should check on a case by case basis so pick your frequency, (I recommend 3.5+ turbo) and start checking ebay.
If intel kept their socket 2011/X79 naming scheme, E5's are higher binned i7 SKU's, so they should be easier for compatibility.
Avoid engineering samples because they are incredibly sketchy nowadays.
ASUS and gigabyte were the two winners for X99, so unless you find one of EVGA's units (which are rare) get one of those. UPDATE THE BIOS, X99 launch BIOSes were a shitshow across the board, especially for ASUS.
Also, consider ASUS because on their higher end boards you can update the BIOS with the USB BIOS FlashBack meme, which is great when you are gambling with half-supported CPU's.
Good luck anon.
>>
>>61022046
Forgot to mention, look for a motherboard first. Get an ASUS with USB BIOS flashback unless you find a good deal on an EVGA classified board.

>>61022062
I love you.
>>
>>61022202
I know.
>>
>>61022260
What do you think of this board?

http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/X99%20Taichi/index.us.asp

Also found a x99 Asus Deluxe for like $150 ish on eBay (used of course) or 209 new like this ASRock
>>
>>61020220
>No ryzen pls, need QuickSync
Then you have to buy and Intel CPU with integrated graphics, like the 7700K or lower, no X99 or X299 CPUs support it.
>>
>>61022260
>>61022320

Also about 6850k?

Is it shit? I know Jewtel is nervous n shiet.

But how close is it to 7820x/7800x?
>>
>>61022340
Oh fuqqqqqqqqqqq

kill me. :(

7700k is shit for what i wanna do
>>
>>61020220
I have an 18c/36t E5-2696v3 off of eBay for $700. Comfy as fuck. And can rekt any quick sync bullshit.
>>
>>61022346
If you buy X99, a chipset that is on it's way out, you should get a multi core xeon from ebay. 6850k may very well not beat out your 4790k with quicksync.
>>
>>61022355
Both AMD and Nvidia's current GPU have something similar to quick sync. I think the AMD version is called VCE, not sure what nVidia's is called. Would those work for what you are planning?
>>
>>61023735
Just found out nVidia's version is called NVENC. Good luck anon.
