Has anyone here with a T4x ever gotten wifi working under Windows 2000? I already installed the drivers for the wifi but I don't see any program to actually let me select a network, which for Windows 2000 came with your wifi card drivers since Windows didn't allow you to natively till XP.

Many Thinkpads have bad sRGB colors...you're gonna have to look at the P5x/P7x screens for anything acceptable...
>>

absolute trash on most of them, mainly the older ones and its almost impossible to upgrade them to an IPS or full HD panel desu

however, Alienware M14x panels (the 14" 1600x900 ones) are supposed to be almost IPS like so if you are getting a T420 or T430, consider this desu

about other thinkpads: i have no fucking clue, soumimasen

Got my T420s but it only gets about 2 hours of battery on Win 10...despite only ~165 cycles on the battery.

Should I

>acquire new main battery
>acquire ultrabay battery (I had wanted to use that to expand ssd space)
>both
>acquire X220t (I had wanted to do this anyways)
>none of the above... Resign myself to shit battery life and learn to love the outlet

Also.... Are there any mobile expansion battery solutions that can output into the power adapter or directly to the ac plug? I just got my dad a fuck huge 28000 mah charger for his mobile devices for travel... Do they make those that will plug right into an ac adapter?

>>

get some chink battery, should be good for like 9 months to a year
does the t420s have a mSATA slot? if yes, dont get a ultrabay hdd adapter. if no, get that battery if you want. if you are a hipster, keep the optical drive.
if you can, get the X220 but not tablet, tablet versions arent really all that great unless you are some artsy traveller imo
>>
>>60966128
Yes it has msata... The main ssd is 128 gb and I will free up 15 of that when I get around to nuking the Lenovo recovery partition that I've realized I don't need (would recover to windows 7 anyways and I've drank the Win 10 coolaid).

How much capacity can I get with msata? I really don't have much use for the DVD... Hardware diagnostics says the disc drive works but I haven't tested it yet.
>>
>>60966124
kinda, they're some of the greatest ones but I personally think /cyb/ /sec/ or generally security and privacy threads are the most interesting

programming threads and battlestations/guts are breddy nice too desu
>>
>>60966128
My thought was the the x220 tablet version would work quite nicely with windows 10. Also I am doing some professional study program online and the course ware is delivered via web so I could just fold it up and be all comfy while studying in all kinds of places (with Bluetooth headphones). Said courseware sucks at being delivered on mobile browsers otherwise I'd just use my Nexus 7 tablet (which is great btw).
>>
>>60966147
the max currently is 1tb but they are pretty expensive, here in germany they cost around 400€ while a 250gb samsung evo 850 is just 100€.
>>
>>60965856
Why would they do this? Should I fear for my T510 or T420s anytime soon?
>>
>>60966177
the X-series tablets are very fat compared to real tablets, it's not as comfy as you imagine it
>>
>>60966182
Neat. Thanks! I'll definitely do that. I haven't opened the thing up... How would something like that be mounted or secured in the frame?

Also... Assuming I do the msata... What should I do with the disc bay? I'd like to do something productive with it... I would probably use a disc once every year and a half.

Maybe just double down and buy a chink main battery and ultrabay battery? If I buy fulfilled on Amazon... If and when they do fail within a year I'll just complain to Amazon and they will reimburse me somehow.
>>
>>60966219
nice strategy. the drive isnt really needed if you only use one in a millenium. get a cheap external drive and use that whenever you need it.

look up T420s dissassembly. its actually directly on the bottom with one of the ramsticks. usually you'd find some other card in there like one for SIMcards but they're shit anyways. just remove it and mSATA SSDs are hold down by a single screw, even though it has two holes, it isnt gonna jump out or anything, it'll just stay in place, dont worry.

Anyone knows some software/hardware hack to prevent eye fatigue from staring at a TN screen for long? Does IPS displays have this problem too? What's the screen type(TN, ips, etc) that damages the eyes the least?
>>
>>60966790
In my experience screen type doesnt matter for eye strain. Use a resolution you can read comfortably and just keep the brightness at a reasonable level.
F.lux is nice software for helping with color temps at night.

Fujitsu Lifebook Ts are superior tablet PCs. Basically the same hardware as in the X220T but less rugged.
iirc Fujitsu holds a patent on a bidirectional hinge for these, which is why the Thinkpad tablet screens can only turn one way.

I have been thinking a while, should I go and upgrade my T61 to the absolute max? Oh boy, I'll carrying this bad boy to the year 2025 with no problem at all and the reason why, is that this machines has a Smartcard reader, meaning I can authenticate myself and it would require quite a lot work to get inside this machine (I hope so at least). >>
>>60972900
You don't understand how TDP works.
ULV trash is in reality 25W, because jewtel decided one day to not count iGPU TDP into the CPU TDP.
So old 35W CPUs are in fact 25W CPU + 10W iGPU
New 25W CPUs are 15W + 10W
and this 10W decrease is only because they lowered base clocks and left turbo clocks untouched. So in turbo it's still 35W.

You stupid goy.

>>60972997
YOU don't understand how TDP works you absolute retard

iGPU has nothing to do with the fact that both machines can go 10W past their rates TDP by default.

Yes, the 35W goes to 45W and the 15W goes to 25W. The listed rating is an average and the manufacturer themselves (not the chip maker) can choose to cap it.
>>
>>60972997
This post is full of misinformed bullshit.
>>
>>60971242
>CPU power is the only factor
cuck
>>
>>60973069
Decreased base clocks of CPU and iGPU is a fact.
You can clearly see how i5-3320m is 2.60GHz while i5-4200U is decreased to 1.60GHz. i5-5200U is 2.2, i5-6200u is 2.3GHz. Still at least 500MHz less in turbo than i5-3320m.
base iGPU clock in i5-3320m is 650MHz and 1250MHz turbo, i5-4200u is 200MHz and 1GHz turbo.
So it's pretty clear jewtel is lying.
>the 35W goes to 45W
it doesn't. Checked myself in case of i7-3520m - when putting 100% load on CPU alone "power" section in HWmon shows 25W, when adding full load via GPU-z it's 25W+10W. Of course turbo enabled.
Check your facts, niggers.

If I may use my experience on T61 to indicate anything, well yes you can watch your favorite animus, but youtube videos tend to choke a bit. Is recommended to use youtube-dl instead with MPV or smplayer. 1080p 60fps on jewtube are unheard of, does not run them smoothly.

Well, this is kinda related.

I have an X220 right here I'm going to probably sell in a few days with an SSD and a brand new keyboard.

Anyways, when I got this, even though it was refurbished the condition was nearly flawless. It included this W7 pro for refurb PCs key and when I turned on the thing it had a setup for it with everything installed already automagically.

You're doing it wrong.
The Ultrabay SATA port is 2nd gen only (3Gbps). To max out the SSD bandwidth you must use the HDD bay and put the existing drive in the ultrabay slot.
You need this, it supports 9.5 and 7mm drives. You may need a caddy and rubber rails to keep the drive in place.
>>
>>60978562
I know about the caddy, yes. My main drive is already SSD, I just need an extra 500 GB, that's why I want the second drive, so then it makes no sense to switch them I guess, right?

So any 9.5mm or 7mm is good for the caddy?

Is the stuff about ThinkPads being waterproof/resistant a meme?

Had a T510 for a while and just now reading about their water resiliance. Am I right in thinking that if you were to spill water on the keyboard, the deal is that in theory it should drain out and save the expensive components like the motherboard, CPU, GPU, RAM etc. but the keyboard will be shot and need replacing?
>>
>>60982964
ThinkPad keyboards are spill-resistant.

The whole thing is not waterproof, the keyboard is not waterproof.

They keyboard will collect all water spilled onto it and push it to the two drain holes at the bottom which route underneath the laptop. The keyboard should still be functional.

Basically, don't pour water on your laptop for fun.

you can get a T410 for that, or even a rough t420.

What's probably causing your eye strain is the PWM flicker

This is because Lenovo likes to use really low flicker rates like 200Hz

The lower your screen brightness the worse this phenomenon will be

So all you can really do is turn up brightness to make it better
>>
>>60967194
3rd gen has much faster iGPU and about 20% faster core speed

A worthy upgrade I think

Probably the 3rd gen has somewhat better battery life as well

Because the X2__ used to use the 35W CPUs and now they only use the 15W CPUs

So since the X220 the X270 sees not a whole lot of performance gain
>>
>>60973053
>I would hibernate but
>this kills the ssd
No it won't. SSDs can write more than spinning rust can by this point.

Think about it, your hibernation is only going to be your ram size. So, 8-16GB a day. That's really not a whole lot compared to all the other shit you're doing every day,
>>
>>60973974
You're comparing a performance quad core CPU and a much bigger screen with the smaller battery option, with a mobile 2 core CPU with the biggest battery option

The results make sense
>>
>>60976788
General consensus Ive seen is they run hot as balls compared to the P50
>>
>>60977776
They keyboard is still pretty good. Because the keys still curve in unlike every other chiclet keyboard design. To this day they still retain that which is nice.

People just think losing the 7th row is a bit of a letdown but if you didnt use the Pause or Scroll Lock keys a lot it's not a huge deal

If yes, then it's worse than /g/ makes it out to be
If no, then it's pretty average. Just be sure to get the 900p display. Don't waste your time on 768p

nobody forces you to load it in 100%. My i7-3740qm and 45Wh battery allows me to use my 2570p for 4-6 hours of normal (100% screen brightness) use. And there is always my second, 100Wh 9cell battery.

Idling cores are internally UNPOWERED. And since quad core cpus have smaller cores it's normal that it uses same/less power in idle.
