Sup /g/, I fell for this meme about a year ago, but I'm having problems (self-diagnosed, potentially not real problems)
My card doesn't go above 81C, upon googling I read that it was designed to hit 94C under load. You might be thinking "so it operates well what's the problem?", but I believe in actuality that my card is throttling its performance upon hitting 80+
What I want to know is how to stop it from doing that, how do I let my card let itself get to potentially dangerous temperatures? (Or in this case design spec temperatures)
Googling this problem has led me to people discussing completely different issues and I have nowhere left to turn
81 is still a fucking fireball, you never want to be close to designed limits.
if urs gets that hot, you should replace the thermal paste on the gpu with some good shit and get whatever dust in the heatsink out

This. You should never go above 65, even if you leave Furmark on for 48 hours.

I'm just using stock cooling, it hits 81 obviously while doing the most intensive things that I do
point is I want to get crazy
DANGEROUS

>>60941865
Oh and what's good paste for a GPU
I don't see the problem. Kids never knew about the 48XX series that ran at 80°C in idle with VRM at 120°C.

noctuas shit is fine
>>60941821
Bonafide retard.
>>60941821
does it get louder when under load?
You don't want it hitting 94c mate... that is max operating temperature, I had my water cooling system die a few months ago, water almost boils at 94c.

Here's how you can tell:
0. Download and install Open Hardware Monitor, honestly should be on every machine already
1. Start OHM up and pull up the graph
2. Set the graph to track GPU load with GPU temp
3. Start a benchmark or something to max the load on your card out & let run for 5-15 minutes
4. Check back on your graph
If you can't see the gpu hit 100% load it's probably thermally limited. If OP's pic is related I can definitely vouch for trying to upgrade the cooling on the stock R9 390X, had to watercool mine just because
>>60941821
Don't listen to the morons here. 81 is normal for a 2fan R9 390x,since urs is the higher clocked ones. It beats gtx 980 and has twice the memory.
Ramp the fucking fans as MSI are fucktards and keep them low speed for muh noise.
>>60942111
it does get louder but the fan speed never goes above 60%~
I don't want to actually hit 94, I just want more headroom before throttling starts
There are fucking temperature controls missing from the AMD Radeon Settings control panel
are you kidding me amd
>>60941821
81C is a lot my 390 nitro doesn't go above 72

>Hardware Monitor
it sucks install HWInfo
put it on ebay and sell it to miners!!!
