How do i make use of my monitor's ICC profile? I tried "icc-profile-auto" and color changed but im not sure if its a "correct" color.

I'm already reading it but some things are unclear still. Can you also tell me about icc-cache-dir? Do i need it if i dont have a 3D LUT? Or will mpv create a 3D LUT from my ICC and put it there?

Yes, mpv will generate one.

CHALLENGE: produce an equally sharp mpv upscale to this MadVR upscale with as little noise and artifacting as this upscale, and post repeatable mpv settings for the upscale. MadVR settings for this are NGU AA medium image upscaling, and adaptive sharpen 1.0 + crispen edges 1.0 + anti-ringing filter under upscaling refinement. This image utilizes AMD denoising but you can use mpv's dn3dHQ for an equivalent effect.
Note: your subjective opinion of how nice this looks is irrelevant to this challenge. This is a technological experiment to see if mpv can produce an upscale this sharp without noise or artifacting. Refusing to attempt the challenge because of ambiguous buzzwords will be interpreted as an admission of defeat.

>>60932372
To make an icc profile you need a color calibrator I think.
>>

No.
You choose the filter in your personal preference. From sharp to blurry:
oversample <-> linear <-> catmull_rom <-> mitchell <-> gaussian <-> bicubic

>>
How can i stream video with youtube dl?
>>
>>60933116
nnedi3 only works when is needed, for example 1280*2=2560 and that gets downscaled to 1080p.
To double you need a 4k screen.
Example:
1280*2=2560*2=5120 and it gets downscaled to 4k
>>
>>60933177
Ooh so i cant 640*2=1280*2=2560 and downscale it to 1080p like in madvr? Only 640*2=1280 and upscale to 1080p? Thank youuu.
>>
>>60933247
You CAN upscale dvds 4 times in a 1080p screen using nnedi3.
480*2=960*2=1920p and it gets downscaled to 1080p.

<JEEB> ok, lodged a complaint and let's see
<JEEB> the best part is that their notification didn't even tell what it was supposed to be impersonating

Is VAAPI hardware decoding just completely broken on Wayland? Using Intel graphics, it falls back to software decoding evey time under Wayland, no matter if I use vo=vaapi, vo=opengl or vo=wayland. Also: the only one that actually runs natively on Wayland is vo=Wayland, but that's unusable because it has no title bar. The other options all run under xwayland (xprop can see them). I'd be fine with xwayland if the hardware decoding still worked, but it doesn't work unless I switch to Xorg. Is there any way to fix this?

Don't remind me about this shit please. Half a year on bilinear upscaling. This should be put into next OP so people don't end up like me.
>>
>>60940629
I'm not sure that's a good idea. High bit depth FBOs are not expected to work on GLES 2.0 and Direct3D 11 feature level 10_0. Feature level 10_0 cards, including the GeForce 9600 GT, are not modern cards. Entering dumb mode is not the problem in that issue (see haasn's post.) The problem is the OpenGL INVALID_ENUM error that appears later in the log.

>>
>>60940715
>>60940720
If you don't have the INVALID_ENUM error or you have a feature level 10_1 card or greater, it's a different issue, and it would be best if you created your own issue rather than flooding that one with unrelated comments. mpv could fall back to dumb-mode for a number of reasons.

The 400 and 500 series Radeons are feature level 12_0, so it's almost certainly a different issue.

If you do have the INVALID_ENUM and you don't have the dumb-mode error, there's a slim chance that it's the same issue, but if you have the dumb-mode error on a 12_0 card, it's definitely a different issue.

>Why won't it give some kinda message to user that ANGLE doesn't work?
It does, in the terminal. mpv is command-line software. If you don't use it on the command-line, you might miss error and warning messages that might be important. If you don't want to use the command-line, install VLC or MPC-HC.

>Why won't it fallback in this case to dxinterop automatically?
Because ANGLE still works, just imperfectly. mpv doesn't know that dxinterop will work better. In fact, dxinterop is known to cause BSoDs on some AMD drivers, so even trying it is a risk. mpv will never do it automatically. ANGLE is the most likely VO to just work, even on crap hardware.

C'mon, anon. Everyone that uses mpv on Windows never use command line with it. We just grab one of the 2 builds and run it like regular media player. Imagine how many people might use it in dumb mode with bilateral scaling just because they didn't try to compare images or didn't enable their logs/used cmd. This is fucked up.

GUI babbys are the worst part of the mpv user community 2bh. They're responsible for almost all the dumb feature requests, like volume controls in the OSC. MPC-HC and madVR were designed for you.

sigmoidal upscaling results in some lines looking better and others looking worse. that's just the way it is. there's no free lunch.

e.g. try sigmoidal on/off, or 6.5 vs 10.0 with the attached image. as i said, sigmoidal on vs off looks better on some lines and worse on others. 6.5 vs 10.0 makes sigmoidal have weaker or stronger effect.

Nnedi3 and NGU suffer from the same problems: while they work really well for properly detected edges, they also give the image a "oil painting" look that gets worse the higher the scale factor.

There's one more issue: they introduce new patterns that didn't exist before. Even when only performing a simple doubling such things occur, no freakish settings/scaling factors needed. See pic related and look at the grass and the texture of the lighthouse's wall. This isn't just the original data just sharper compared to the other scalers, in some parts totally new patterns are created and existing structures warped. This also happens frequently for leaves, foliage etc.

It's a RGB actually
>>
>>60948004
Second, post code
>>
>>60947369
This is not what i need. It shows all scale, cscale, shaders, etc. I need only the ones currently used. ie so it doesnt show scale on unscaled video.
>>
>>60948004
>>60948067
Luma: ${scale}, Radius: ${scale-radius}, Blur: ${scale-blur}\nChroma: ${cscale}, Radius: ${cscale-radius}, Blur: ${cscale-blur}\n Shaders: ${opengl-shaders}

Something like this, use lua to remove the path from the shaders.
>>
>>60948067
You can do that with lua. If output size is bigger than the video then show scale only, if smaller - dscale.
Or just ask stats.lua dev to add this.
>>
>>60947702
>he doesn't watch videos the way they were meant to
>>
>>60947688
literally everything, maybe try glasses if you can't tell
>>
>>60948334
You don't get it. The videos are not supposed to judder on decent monitor/TV. The problem is when you can't match 24 FPS with your refresh rate. It causes judder. Interpolation with tscale oversample fixes this shit by blending frames when needed.
>>
>>60948402
So is interpolation not needed if you got a 120/144hz monitor since those are multiples of 24?
>>
>>60948450

Nope.

The patrician way of avoiding interpolation (and the artefacts) is to switch your monitor resolution to an integer multiple of the videos fps.

works with autospeed.lua and autospeedwin.lua
Fairly easy to set up. No blurry interpolation, no additional drag on your resources. Just perfect presentation
>>
>>60948450
interpolation is actually never needed unless you're autistic

>>60948513
But if I overclock my monitor to 72Hz it would be judder free while playing 24P video right?
>>
>>60948352
ok, old fart
>>
>>60948513
It only works if your monitor supports all necessary resolutions :(
>>
>>60948334
Why are you not using scale=bilinear then?

Why do some scalers have the radius 3.2383154841662362?

I advice everyone using windows to stop using mpv now.
Just use Jinc with madVR or maybe you could try a linux distro for a month at least. Why a month? Because you have to adapt you and a single month is really the correct time.
>>
>>60949142
>I advice everyone using windows to stop using mpv now.
Why?
I really like it.
I already try using madvr and I didn't like it that much.
>>
>>60949193
It still suck on windows!
It's from the mpv's author, so it's probably true.
>>

Angle is garbage.
>>

It doesn't suck at least for me.
I'll keep using it.
>>
>>60947708
how do you get upscaled resolution? I tried using nnedi3 but doesn't work, also tried superxbr-native.hook and nothing
>>

But it just works.
>>
>>60949258
ctlr+s to take upscaled screenshots
>>
>>60949221
Yes I know! If 2017 is still not the year for linux desktop I think the mpv developers will have no choices anymore and will have to create a proper d3d renderer or, even worse, develop a directshow support for madvr and other shits.
>>

Vulkan™

hmm is there no way to get super resolution like in madvr? that would be good

does he have a job

He still is working on Vulkan tho.
He is probably fixing all the HDR things first because of the influx of UHD HDR rips in the trackers.

Kimi no na wa is going to have a UHD HDR release also.
>>
>>60948067
That's everything you can do. You can display the values you set the scale options to and that's precisely why I think it's totally unnecessary: it just mirrors the option you have set in your mpv.conf anyway. Why would you want that. Is your memory that bad?
>>
>>60949434
I don't get it
I see lots of talented guys on github
that stay ANONYMOUS
why not take credit for their work?
it's like they don't like money
>>
>>60948067
>>60948129
It's unnecessarily complicated for absolutely no value (>>60949698), i.e. there are too many cases.
You can have your image scaled even when the window size is exactly the video size and you can have your video unscaled even though the window is bigger than the video size. And then there's stuff like panscan/zoom/cropping. There's a whole lot of options determining what happens in the end.
>>
Have the default settings for vo=opengl changed much in somewhat recent builds? I have a really fucking old toaster, and while vo=opengl makes videos unplayable on the most recent Windows build, everything works without any issue with that same video driver on a Windows build from mid-2015 I had lying around here.

>>

I don't care what you think. He is a student and when you are at least sometimes in some of mpv's IRC channels you know it.

maybe the world would be a little bit less shit if we actually did care about what each other thought
>>
>>60949868
That's not a useful feature and now leave.
>>
>>60949911
Yeah maybe, but not in this case.
You see, there is really no point in investing time to convince some guy on the internet. I answered your question because I recently read he's currently writing his thesis so he's still at university.
I'm not going to fight over your believe, there's nothing in there for me.

Wait a second please. Is video-sync=display-resample the same shit as ReClock's feature and the same shit that is available in MDPN?

Does anyone know if Krig Bilateralt, and SSSR are up to date with MDPN's ones? Shiandow made some changes in march 2017.
>>
>>60950398
They also love their single-threaded old-ass avisynth shit. Just shows how far these people are from the real world.
Heck, even the code-copying russions from SVP acknowledged that mpv+VS has better performance for their shit than mpchc and provide Windows mpv binaries with VS support for their paying customers.

Is there any difference to in which order shaders are in shader chain? Or can i put them just wherever?

True. Especially the Nnedi3 image looks awful. However, NGU looks *much* better than Nnedi3 with grass, leaves etc. Almost the same as Lanczos, just sharper. See attached image, using NGU Standard.
