Why do people talk about github when apparently gitlab is the more legit one?
>>60931376
They're both legit Git repositories.
They're both legit. GitHub is just more well-known.

GitHub = SJW
So not legit. Also doesn't allow private repos for free like GitLab.
Github's name is too iconic to die

>Literally wanting private repos
>Hiding your code from others
That's not very Free Software, anon

They were first. Most people - including me - are probably too lazy to switch.
>>60931544
There are thousands of reasons why you would like to have an online private repo, while still relasing software for free.
And just the SJW part makes it not worthy.
>>60931544
GitHub does allow private repositories if you pay, now that's not very free software
>>60931648
I know this is kicking a hornet's nest but what makes you so sure GitHub harbors this boogeyman you're so paranoid about?
A lot of people still scrutinize excessive censorship and refactoring projects simply to meet the ever growing needs of a minority group. Most examples I've seen on /g/ have been pretty tame and hardly intrusive or even concerning.
Because people are literally too stupid to realize hosting your own Git repository is simpler than than the code you'll put in it.

I don't really care how ess jay dubya they are, they make up for it by giving free hosting to everyone that follows their rules.
The real problem with Github is that they're a huge single point of failure for a ton of open source projects.
What's with bitbucket?
It has free private repos too. Also it never let me down. I liek it desu

What's wrong with plain Git

Because GitHub is also...
>le git
Who /push and pull from private repo but only push to gitlab and github mirrors/ here
Best of all worlds.
