Is FastCGI fast? Are there other alternatives for serving dynamic content? Would you gain a significant speed improvement from integrating the code in the web server binary?

>Is FastCGI fast?
It's faster than CGI, since the binary doesn't get loaded into RAM every request.
>Are there alternatives for serving dynamic content?
- server plugins (like apache httpd modules), a little bit faster but with other drawbacks
- normal CGI
- in-language gateway specifications like PSGI, WSGI or Rack
- just redirecting http requests

A bit - see plugins - but then again, scaling and updating become worse.
