other than budget or brand loyalty, were there any reasons for people to buy pic related instead of a comparable intel cpu?
>>
for the majority of the people budget is a fair enough reason
>>
>>60903572
FX6300 was the sweet spot for poorfags and the FX8350 OC'd did a little bit better than comparable 3770k at video rendering

other than that, not really.
>>
yes, there is a blockade in my country, no new processors, only FX is newest

Only this cpu was worth buying from AMD.
If you bought anything else, you fell for the meme hardcore.
>>
>>60903590
>>60903675
didn't the FX require much more power? so that would mean investment in a better PSU and the motherboard would need to handle the voltage. not to mention accumulating (although small) power consumption bill.
>>60903705
russia?
>>
>>60903572
The more cores approach held potential, all developers had to do was learn to utilise cores properly, and indeed after over a decade of multi-core cpus they still can't do it.
>>
What sort of Intel cuck would continue to pay more for less?
>>
>>60904225

You already know the answer to your question. If the FX CPU required more expensive parts, resulting in a PC build more expensive than an intel build, it wouldn't BE the budget brand.

>muh power bill

Holy fuck when will this meme die
>>
It is literally comparable to Intel in every aspect.

So if you have the chance to back up competition to the people who are deliberately responsible for stagnating progress, that's probably the smart choice.

You are getting the same thing, so might as well promote competition.
>>
>>60904312
>It is literally comparable to Intel in every aspect.
The mind of the fanboy, in all of its delusion.
>>
>>60903711
I bought a Phenom II 965 BE (the revision with 125W TDP) for 130€ in late 2009. Still rocking
>>
>>60903572

nope. even second hand sandy vagina is much better perf than bulldozer and piledriver.
>>
Why are incucks still fighting yesterday's fanboy flamewar? Do you have buyer's remorse?
>>
>>60903572
get zen instead, fx is shit and has no reason to exist
>>
Hardware backdoor
>>
>>60903572
FX reaaaaally isn't THAT bad. "8 core" FX and a GTX 1050 Ti and you should be able to play any game no problem.

TDP isn't great, but I'm talking about building budget. There's a reason why they were so popular.

You're better off getting an old 6 core CPU refurb though.
>>
>>60905376
Your mother has a hardware backdoor.

8300 is $90, I'd like to see an Intel compete at that price honestly.
>>
>>60905418
zen is better, fx is a fucking turd

I bought tis out of pure "OH MY FUCKING BILL GATES AN 8 CORE CPU" and fell hard, i withstand a rough 3 years, i sell my entire PC to a video editing and photofag for 1.5 the price i got it and build an i5 6600k PC with an RX 480 Nitro 8GB, i am now aware that in the CPU for gaming department AMD sucks ass.
>>
>>60904225
>Muh power bill
I have two refrigerators, an electric oven, electric washer and dryer, a kilowatt microwave, etc etc, and my power bill is ~$100-200 per month.

And you're going to bitch about less than 50 watts?
>>
>>60906067
>the successor is better than the predecessor
I'd fucking hope so.
>>
>>60906154
Sucked ass, rather. AMD is running even now, because games are using more cores; and because the "moar coars" are real cores now instead of meme half-cores.

The best way to think of Ryzen is as "fat Haswell". Still a few gens behind in sheer IPC and clockspeed, but rapidly catching up and a lot wider. Whereas, Bulldozer was more like "fat Core 2, missing some FPUs"
>>
>>60906237>I'd fucking hope so.

It wasn't always the case with amd.

>>60906238
>instead of meme half-cores

It took until the realease of Zen for and to finally admit fx had half cores.
>>
>>60906237
fx sure as fuck wasnt
>>
>>60903572
Budget had a big impact on even considering an fx series. It was pretty good as a home server, but personally I would only consider purchasing if I had a huge discount from average retail pricing.

Yeah i just grew tired of the Wait (trademark symbol) RX 480 was a nice mid range GPU for the price, and now miners are tempting to sell it and buy a GTX 1070 but i am afraid of getting gimped, so no, i am a keeper with this one, @1080p i play well on ultra settings on almost every game.
>>
>>60903572
Budget and the fact that it only gets beaten in artificial tests. I have a gtx 760 and I "upgraded" from an 8320 to a 4790k and found out that the difference in performance is unnoticable while the price difference is around $200.
>>
>>60903711
Bullshit I had a 760k (basically the 860k) in an old build and it could barely run 4k youtube videos. Its fucking trash. I've never seen a CPU max out so easily
>>
>>60904725

I'm still rocking the Phenom II 955 BE. Paired it with the Radeon RX480 8 gig.
>>
>>60908646
>I have a gtx 760 and I "upgraded" from an 8320 to a 4790k and found out that the difference in performance is unnoticable

Come on now. Performance gains would be unnoticeable if you didn't need the performance in the first place. If all you do was web browser then off course you wouldn't notice any performance gains between any CPU today.
>>
>>60903572
Fx was a fucking pile of shit, I regret bit every single day.
>>
Almost bought a Bulldozer CPU a couple years ago.

Glad I waited for Ryzen. My Ryzen is in route to my house as I type this post.
>>
>>60908846

The reason I kept holding on the 955 BE all these years. I kept checking every year and just wasn't overly thrilled with the FX. Was also doing that for video cards. Kept checking every year and just wasn't having any of them. Then I saw the RX480 and bam that was the card I've been waiting for. Took years but I'm more than happy now. Going to still wait on the CPU wars though.

>>60908868

Hope you do a review on here for that.
>>
>>60904244
you have a very limited understanding of whats possible in software it would seem
>>
>>60906154
a photofag would want stronger single thread perf

source, im a photofag. working into video editing more and more. i went with a 7700 and 10 series gtx. photoshop and lightroom is king but im not slack jawed in premiere and can play some games.... if video becomes a huge part of my paycheck ill buy a cheap zen proc and make a render box
>>
>>60906238
>but rapidly catching up and a lot wider.

hahah rapidly catching up. yeah in that whole one release

fuck you guys are desperate

no one is denying the utility of any amd offering but god damn the desire to be wet is just so hilarious
>>
>>60906895
what the fuck are you even trying to type out?

sell your rx shit and pocket cash and wait for restock or get a gtx now.
>>
>>60903572
They offered great price/performance for many tasks. Just not gaming, and that's all /g/ cares about really.
>>
>>60908983

Are you referring to the RX stock card?
>>
>>60909015

Sorry meant reference card
>>
>>60903572
My Fx-6300 was comparable to the similarly priced SB i3 at the time of purchase. As a bonus it aged brilliantly, leaving that i3 in the dust.

>Goes from Core 2 levels to Haswell levels in one generation
>Not rapidly catching up
You shills wouldn't call AMD's pace rapid if they went from Phenom to a moon landing.
>>
>>60909400
A cellphone could handle the moon landing. Astronauts could actually use an HP calculator to get back to Earth if the onboard equipment failed.
>>
>>60903572
I built FX-4100 in my first gaming build. I didn't understand that Intel's cores were stronger. Because I was on the AM3 platform and started doing alot of 3D modeling I moved up to the 8320 because I was a poor student. It was relatively cheap to only change the CPU.
Had a 6700k for about a year now and I am satisfied with it. Not gonna let Ryzen shills or Intel shills convince me I need to upgrade for a couple of years. It's fast enough.
>>
I upgraded a 6-core phenom to a used fx 8320 for 70 euro, and it rocks. When I'll have 1500+ euro to spend I'll go Threadripper
>>
>>60904244
Most of what you do are very simple calculations/instructions which don't make sense to split into to many threads. I've only brushed on threads but I couldn't get my simple programs to execute faster.
Also when you develop a program you optimize it to work best on the most common platform. Most laptops that your mum uses are dual core.
>>
I owned the FX 6300 until after March or February when I got my 7600k. Was amazing price performance when I got it back in 2012 or so and lasted be till then overclocked the whole time. It was very solid, and I'll stand by its value till the day I die. Would I recommend it anymore or any time post like 2014? I'm iffy on that. But I can't say I was ever let down by it.
>>
>>60903572
>other than budget

Now let me see. I can buy a chip for 250 dollars, or one for 300 dollars. They have the same performance, but if I own the cheaper one (which nobody will ever see) then a few strangers on the internet may hold a slightly lower opinion of me
>>
>>60905786
a locked ivy 4t is $70 or less, and will post the same sc as a zen cpu at 4ghz
>>60908646
>GTX 760
that's because you're severly gpu bottlenecked on that haswell
>>
>>60910095
>They have the same performance

But fx CPUs didn't perform the same. If you bought one at $250 ever then you're really retarded.
