The best way to think of Ryzen is as "fat Haswell". Still a few gens behind in sheer IPC and clockspeed, but rapidly catching up and a lot wider. Whereas, Bulldozer was more like "fat Core 2, missing some FPUs"

Kept checking every year and just wasn't having any of them. Then I saw the RX480 and bam that was the card I've been waiting for. Took years but I'm more than happy now. I built FX-4100 in my first gaming build. I didn't understand that Intel's cores were stronger. Because I was on the AM3 platform and started doing alot of 3D modeling I moved up to the 8320 because I was a poor student. It was relatively cheap to only change the CPU.
Had a 6700k for about a year now and I am satisfied with it. Not gonna let Ryzen shills or Intel shills convince me I need to upgrade for a couple of years. It's fast enough.

I upgraded a 6-core phenom to a used fx 8320 for 70 euro, and it rocks. When I'll have 1500+ euro to spend I'll go Threadripper

Most of what you do are very simple calculations/instructions which don't make sense to split into to many threads. I've only brushed on threads but I couldn't get my simple programs to execute faster.
Also when you develop a program you optimize it to work best on the most common platform. Most laptops that your mum uses are dual core.

I owned the FX 6300 until after March or February when I got my 7600k. Was amazing price performance when I got it back in 2012 or so and lasted be till then overclocked the whole time. It was very solid, and I'll stand by its value till the day I die. Would I recommend it anymore or any time post like 2014? I'm iffy on that. But I can't say I was ever let down by it.
