I went to a shop that charged me $40 to install RAM in my computer. Did I get duped?
>this is bait.jpg
Neck yourself you stupid cunt even youtube has basic videos how to do this holy shit.

I'll bite.
I used to work for a shop here that charged that for labor when doing a ram upgrade, but we included running memtest86+, changing the page file, and more importantly optimizing the OS to boot, and work faster since that's what everyone doing a ram upgrade expect. He defrag, removing startup, clearing out temp files.
I think the $40 for labor was well spent

It's probably bait but there are people who can't even handle such a simple task
Yes, you could've just downloaded more RAM
you can easily overload your motherboards RAM limit by daisy chaining ram together
>>60902656
>changing page file
what is 1999?

uhm, are you retarded?
>>60902978
There is no reason to manually change the page in anything newer than Windows XP
>>60902607
>this is bait
>get mad and answers seriously
>>60902593
Only if they inluded the price of the RAM in the price
Why did you come here AFTER getting it done though?
>>60902766
this
>>60902593
No, you didn't get duped. Stop being a snowflake.

top kek
>>60902656
did anyone ever say anything about u defragging their SSD's?
>>60902593
>they RAMed it into your 45$
>>60902593
Damn, that's a good price. My local expert charges me $75 per component.
>/g/ thinks the only cost is putting the fucking stick in the board
What's it like being so utterly clueless?
If its purely 40 bucks labor, it would depend on the system. If it's a desktop, then 40 labor is ridiculous. If someone comes to me to install ram physcially, I may charge up to 5 bucks for a tower.
BUT! If it's one of those shitty modern laptops that you have to completely tear apart to install memory, then YES that is understandable as there is more than removing an access panel and installing.
>>60902822
is this real?
>>60906124
yes
>>60906124
maybe
>>60902593
Its fine. There's more risk of incompatible RAM than you might think, especially old and prebuilt computers. And they ate that risk.
>>60906124
i don't know
>>60906124
probably
>>60902822
dubs
>installs RAM
>tests it and the rest of your hardware too, because if the hard drive crashes next week normies will blame the shop
>pays overhead and taxes like any business
>wastes ten minutes with on the phone next week if customer is a normie because you can't get into Netflix, did you change the password while it was in the shop?
>warranty parts and labor
$40 is a deal at a real shop. If you didn't want to pay you should have done it yourself.
>First computer
>Buy 4 gigs DDR2
>Try to install it in mobo, mobo doesn't turn on and just beeps. Installing old ram still makes it beep
>have to bring it to a shop because I was a fucking retarded kid
>what are bench fees
none of you know anything
>>60902593
40 bucks? lmao fuck I'd like to work there.
>>60904269
no one is going to charge 5 fucking bucks for any service lol.
>>60906124
its absolutely real.
try it
>>60902593
should of downloaded it

>>60902656
I think $40 is fair for this. It's a bit expensive if all they do is stick the RAM in and go though. I would think that a fair price would be closer to $20; $10 or possibly free if the customer purchases the memory to be installed from the shop
Nice value op
My guy charges 75 for ram install
He's thorough though and never had a problem with his ram
>>60903036
Yes, there is. You want to fix the swap file's size.
>>60902607
nah there are people that do this. my cousin told me he paid geek squad ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS to backup his files
>>60902834
This was Windows XP days
>>60906124
If you know a single thing about how computers work you'd know this wouldn't work
>>60902822
I...th.....you can't be this autistic.
>>60902593
You had another person waste ~10-30 minute of their time.
Did you think they were working for free?
hey /g/
last time i put pc together was over 10y ago,
is dual channel ram still a thing in 2017 ?
what about 4 filled ram slots, 4x8gb would still be DCh?
also, ddr4 2400 cl14 would be astronomically better than 2133 cl15 , right?
>>60902948
>>60908065
Come on, that isn't fun anymore.
