People who will want to pirate will find ways to do so. BTW, they won't stop be able to stop piracy anyways. And I don't see any Japanese companies there, so nothing really changes for me.

>>
Isn't this the definition of a cartel?
>>
>>60901338
Pirated media isn't within legal grounds so there's nothing criminal about fighting it in a group.

>>60901302
>People who will want to pirate will find ways to do so.

Way too generalized. The amount of effort needed by a single person to find those ways has to be factored in.
Less convenient access points, bigger sales, companies wouldn't be doing this otherwise.
>>
>>60901258
Why waste resources on stopping piracy if the people pirating won't enter into the ecosystem anyway?
>>
>>60901963
It would possibly be interpreted as them being okay with people consuming their products without paying for them.
>>
Its not piracy if your sharing. I've been out if the loop but how'd they get around that?
>>
>>60901165
Define media.
>>
Why do people mostly only torrent illegal media? Rarely is there any support for legal torrents, but there is an abundance of people seeding illegal torrents, and the top torrents chart shows it.

It's ironic that someone can even encourage people to torrent their content, but rarely anyone does; but someone else actively makes it know that they don't want their content torrented and everyone is all over that stuff.

Metropolis will be placed in the public domain on December 31, 2022 in the U.S.

Democracy is a system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives.

Liberty is the state of being free within society from oppressive restrictions imposed by authority on one's way of life, behavior, or political views.
>>
>>60904032
Pure Hulu would let you watch entire every season of a show without even making an account. All you had to do was sit through some ads.
Current Hulu is a (((greedy asshole))) who you'd be lucky to get a free preview out of without having to watch an ad before it. Even when you pay for a Hulu membership, you'll still watch ads anyway. If that's not greedy, I don't know what is.

Also, today's Hulu is really evil and manipulative ever since they got bought by Comcast. :(

legit i would pay $50 a month for a service which did the following

>on demand content
>let me store the content indefinitely on my device
> allowed me to move the content around to any machine (presumably registered ones only)
>had all of the content i desired
>comprehensive information about the content
>variation on the quality, size and version of the content

Currently, to have access to MOST of the things i want to consume, I would need an account for Stan, Netflix and Foxtel. A Foxtel all-channels package costs $130, the other two are 10 and 15 respectively. (Fox is absurdly expensive, it should be as cheap as the other two). Alas, Australia has the worst selections for content.
This only covers TV and Movies - I am still yet to pay my $10pm for spotify.

Crucially, even in combination, these will not cover all of the content I wish to see. Where am I supposed to get lossless versions of CD's which are limited run? What if i only want a portable 'lossy' version?
How can I get view an indie film which hasn't been picked up by companies looking for profit, but screened at a local film festival? When Netflix decides to remove content without warning, where am I allowed to watch it? If they became the sole rights holder, would it be lost forever? Not to mention censorship.

In my mind, the only way to obtain a comprehensive list of media is to have it crowd-sourced and user based. The community has done an outstanding job of this in the past. WCD contained nearly %75 of all tracks ever recorded before it was shut down. Spotify doesn't even come close. PTP and BTN are outstandingly well maintained and contain a colossal amount of content (from a relatively small amount of users).

Piracy is simply a more reliable method of getting what I need. I would happily pay, but nobody deserves my money.

You know, it's such a baffling situation.

People want to watch Hollywood.
Hollywood wants to lock up people because of that.
So because of that, those people, those who are being called criminal by Hollywood, try to save Hollywoods hosting costs by torrenting movies and hosting them themselves (p2p sharing). That way, Hollywood can cut costs and employ more lawyers to criminalize the people that save them money and share their lifes time with them.

Long story short: Take a big fat shit on Hollywood and all those dolls and puppets already.

Just don't pay for their movies ("hurr durr I'm painted like a clown in front of a camera"), pay for good software instead, if you must lose your assets because of being trained to do so.

If Hollywood would cease to exist, humanity would not fear a single threat. Everything would proceed as normal (as a matter of fact Hollywood screenwriters once went on strike for a few weeks and hollywood stalled - nothing happened AT ALL).
Just one day a fucked up OS by Microsoft (ransomware crymeme) and hospitals can't proceed to be available and take care of sick people.

Yet Hollywood gets more attention, fuck that.

Take a vacation to Hollywood and take a piss at their doorstep, those fucks aren't worth more than that.

>>
>>60901110
If they allied and offered a massive collection of media in the highest possible quality for streaming or downloading themselves for a monthly fee of maximum 30$ they would literally swim in money and movie piracy would go down 30% (the other 70% of pirates are in third world countries and thus are not really target consumers anyway. That's mostly because of inflation though. It's easy to make billion dollar sellers when the dollar is worth a tenth of what it did 50 years ago.

not really. "Democracies" tend to die rather quickly and be replaced by oligarchies where everyone in the know learns to fix the system be saying a few buzzwords in order to drum up support, look contrite when called out on how they didn't live up to their promises, saying that these things "take time", and continue as always. individually, people can be smart, groups can pool intelligence and be even smarter, but after a certain point diminishing returns kicks in and then all positive gains turn negative. Its the reason why mobs can manipulated to attack something fairly easily if you point them toward something you dislike. Now turn that mob into a nation, see what I mean?

I pirate not only because i can, but because i want to harm these fuckers income.
The main idea of copyright is fair and makes sense.
>creators who took the risk of investing time and money into a project should be the ones who reap the income of that project and have control over their own output.
But anyone who knows a bit about modern day copyright laws, atleast where i come from, sees them for what they are:
>cash cows for big companies
Public domain has basically been eradicated by Disney and Co. Even the most sensible person will think that pirating a 90 year old movie can no longer be seen as stealing from the creators and yet here we are. This 120 year period will get extended as soon at it threatens to run out, because of the massive lobbying behind that.

But what concerns me even more is the backdoor infringement on the free spreading of ideas. Piracy lockdown is mostly just a smokescreen to finally get that internet regulation all governments want.

Remember why the internet was so great to begin with ?
The ultimate freedom of information. The fact that no longer could a government or TV station stop you from seeing, hearing or reading something you were not supposed to do.
Do you want to go back to those days ?
When you had to hope something good would come on TV and it would be interrupted by 14 commercial breaks ?
The times, when all ideas had to be approved and books could be eradicated from the face of a nation if the local government would want it to be so ?
Do you really wish for these times to come back ?
Because this is what the internet will become, if no one stops them.
It has already begun, net neutrality was the first step. This will be the second and as soon as people get used to it, the total surveillance follows.
So you ask me why i pirate ?
Because these faggots will not see a cent of my money for their shit propaganda and lies.
>>
>>60913486
You want a good example to use for pro-piracy? use the movie Nosferatu.
In europe it was found to infringe on the dracula and ALL copies were ordered to be destroyed. A couple of people decided to grab copies of the film and go to other countries ( one being the U.S.) were the film was reprinted. Piracy SAVED a film from total destruction.

>The ultimate freedom of information. The fact that no longer could a government or TV station stop you from seeing, hearing or reading something you were not supposed to do.
>Do you want to go back to those days ?
"Those days" aren't gone yet, but the internet right now is just cock waving bullshit, pretending to be intellectual without knowing shit on the matter and wasting our lives away on anime and films while complaining about our """"depression"""". That kind of happened irl already but everything we found shitty about real life is now being slapped on our faces, wherever we go on the internet, while the main reason we are here is because we want to escape from that.
In other words, the internet as it is now is pretty fucking shit, and needs to be restricted to institutional use AS SOON AS FUCKING POSSIBLE.
But that won't happen as long as it is a nice source of income.

This is where anti-piracy faggots always drop the ball. In no way is digital piracy the same as physical stealing.

When you take a physical object, you are removing physical value from the owner of the object. Lets say the meat in that pic is worth $10. By taking it, you have gained $10 and the owner has lost $10.
Now, how does this translate to digital piracy?
It doesn't. Lets say you pirate a $60 AAA title. The object is the game, it's value is $60. When you pirate it, you obtain the object at the value of $60. However, no where in this transaction is the value removed from the company who owns the IP. You do not remove $60 of inventory from the company as you do when you steal a physical item that has a value. Likewise, the object you now own was never actually possessed by the company whose IP you pirated. What you own is a perfect replica of the object, not the original object at all. You have not damaged the company by pirating,

>>

I honestly dont want physical media.

You want money? Create the steam of online streaming including the sales. Its has to be independent of the content creators and the ISPs or it will be proprietary locked down garbage and each company will end up making their own.

Good luck though these companies wont accept that their racket is broken.

This is why I stopped listening to Metallica. This isn't why I cancelled Netflix (DVD only customers went from welcome to merely tolerated), but I'm glad I did it.

These massive corporations can try to paint it as stealing from them, but it just comes off as greedy and mean. And people don't want to support companies that don't align with their personal values. Ironically, they'd probably be more prosperous is they weren't as aggressive against pirates. The pirates will operate regardless, but the companies would at least save the expense of employing lawyers and bribing congressmen.

... but actually this saves society. You know, making things actually available to everyone for cheaper.

Intellectual property needs to be more extremely limited and should die in ten years or less. Yes, all of it. Copyright included. Let's enforce open source / schematics access along with it. The benefits to society are much greater than the lost business opportunities.

Just because you pirate a show doesn't mean you can't contribute to its success/popularity and profitability. One who pirates a show might recommend it to friends, colleagues, and/or other random people on the Internet.

You can't compete with free, but you can try to offer more convenience, reliability, or quality.
