I'm using Debian 9 right now on one of my PCs and it's really good after setting it up. Only complaint is that the Thunderbird it ships with doesn't allow you to log into Jewgle mail. Still, it's rock solid if you are like me and have a machine that doesn't need/want updates all the time.

I don't get why people use MATE when XFCE exists. If Unity's topbar makes it into Gnome 3 then Gnome will deprecate Unity entirely (it already has).

I upgraded to Stretch from Jessie by distro-syncing and it didn't install Plymouth.

I did this about 2 weeks ago so unless they added it recently, which they don't tend to do then the answer is probably not.
