What does /g/ think about the oncoming technological singularity predicted by Ray Kurzweil and others?
Have you heard of it?
What new technologies do you predict will arise after it?
Are you skeptical of it's legitimacy?
self bump
The singularity is possible, and perhaps inevitable given the continued advance of mankind, but saying it's 'near' is like being someone in the 60s telling people that 'fusion is 20 years away'

won't happen in this century

What makes you say that?
The trends like power/cost or supercomputer power happening right now propose about 2050 and have held for a long time

It's a complete farce. This is the kind of stuff that fartsniffing college philosophy professors fantasize about on the internet and nothing more. The idea that computers can somehow self improve implies that they have motivation to improve, which of course, they don't.
