I wish there was a screen I could strap to my face
Not necessarily vr.
But a small portable screen that I put on my face and gives me a completely fine desktop environment / thing I can play normal games on would be great
Is the impossible?
I just thought of this cause I'm sick of dragging a monitor everywhere when I have to move my pc
If you're actually serious, vive lighthouse/Oculus Camera on desk, VR headset with either Virtual Desktop ($15) or BigScreen ($0), or you could try to use your phone and VRidge as a headset instead.
If you really don't want a monitor, buy a headless dongle (so your graphics card outputs a standard resolution) and set SteamVR to run automatically, and then you can access your desktop natively through SteamVR or other applications through the programs above.
Although for all the trouble (and mula) you're going to, might as well just use a monitor.

So I should give up?

Strapping a monitor to your face would be very discomforting and unusable unless it had head tracking in which case it's basically VR
A VR headset (can be cheap, not necessarily Vive or Oculus CV1) running a virtual desktop sounds pretty close to what you're describing
