AYYMD IS FINISHED & BANKRUPT

AYYMDPOORFAGS CONFIRMED ON SUICIDE WATCH

But who cares, except retarded gaymers?
>>

What the fuck? That's like 3-4 times its MSRP. Fucking cryptofucks.
>>
>bankrupt
>all GPUs sell as soon as they reach the shelves

That seems to be the exact opposite.
>>
>>60854384
Only complete retards would pay this much though. You can get 1070 and get the same performance for less money.
The reason for AMD popularity in mining was always incredible money to performance ratio, and if it's inflated this much no one will buy.
Except for retarded newfags who will blindly follow internet guides.

Would minerfags buy my rx480 msi 8gb?
If so, for what price?

For GPU markets apparently.

It sort of fucks up AMD's entire marketing strategy of undercutting Nvidia.

If AMD isn't cheaper for the performance, they don't have a selling point.

So... right now they don't have a selling point.
>>
>>60854547
No. AMD won because their cards are selling so well the prices go up.
>>
>>60854560
when it dies down the market gets flooded with cheap used gpu's. AMD actually get quite a nice market share bump.

I think its a win win for AMD - you fab line is at capacity, product is flying off the shelf and at the end of it you end up with more customers at the end.

The only real downside is some of your core may be forced into getting a nvidia card if they are upgrading today.
>>
>>60854150
AMD cards pay for themselves even at ridiculous prices. How is this bad again?

Pretty sure yes. 400's and 500's are sold out in every european store I checked, and the ones that still have a stray 480 are trying to sell it at 450-500€. I say throw the shit at the wall and see if it sticks, try selling it online for 400€ or so, then lower it a bit if it doesn't sell.
>>
>>60854641
Fucking this. Even at this pricing AMD cards still have better bang for buck than nvidia rubbish.

>>
>>60854728
Get 1080.
>>
>>60854678
So now tell me why would anyone buy your RD480 instead of 1080 themselves? Knowing that 1070 is actually better at mining that RX480.
You can give it a try and maybe you will find some brainlet who will blindly buy your card because internet told him that RX480 is the best GPU for mining (which was true before it sold out) but unless you get complete moron no one will buy.
If you don't use it for anything then you can try mining ETH yourself. It's gold mine right now.
>>
>>60854684
it's pretty hard to compare reputation to card sales though.

you could speculate the 2-5% increase in RMA's would impact AMD in some way, kind of a moot point
>>
>>60854427

>>

That's fans, you can easily replace them. ASIC itself is usually fine.
>>

It's true that miners run their cards cooler than average gamer (undervolting and fans at full tilt in open air), but they also run them 24/7, opposed to mostly light desktop load with the occasional game.

The thermal cycles are what often cause physical failures in hardware like that. Some parts of the hardware are better off being kept at a constant, reasonable temperature rather than fluctuating wildly (as with games).

It does murder the fans, though, and there are still some other parts of the hardware that can fail unrelated to thermal cycles.

AMD may be selling GPU's like hot cakes right now. But when the bubble bursts and everyone starts selling them used AMD will make no profit from new cards. It's one reason they probably are not increasing production to meet demands because they don't want to be left holding onto a shit load of stock that nobody will buy due to already buying Nvidia cards and used cards will be so cheap to buy.

It's a double edged sword. This ruins AMD's gaming market share and gaming profile. Everyone will stay with Nvidia because they see AMD as the overpriced and unavailable GPU aimed at miners instead of gamers.

The retailers and scumbags overpricing them are making the profit. AMD get the same as they always have because they sell at a much lower price to retailers. AMD are NOT raking it in and their gaming profile is being butchered just like last time. Nvidia are laughing their asses off.
>>
>>60858117
If you want sad, think about where these cards end up. If you're developing a game and wondering what GPUs to spend time supporting, you might take a look at the steam hardware survey. If miners are buying all the cards and no gamers are getting any, the steam survey will be like 90% nvidia. Imagine developing an engine and seeing that- why even bother supporting AMD?

Lets say AMD sends Newegg a shipment of 500 RX 480's.

Newegg, instead of selling each at like $200 MSRP, they could just sell them to scalpers at $400 each. Then the scalpers could still make money by selling them for $650 each.

I have yet to see any retailers selling above MSRP even though easily could with items like the Switch and RX 480.

mining market is too small for amd to aim at it exclusively. Furthermore, it is now dominated by special products.

Gaming market on the other hand is huge. Nvidia has like x5 capitalization of amd with only gpu business. Losing consumer gpu market is the worst thing that can happen to radeon. And yet keeps losing market share to nvidia.
I am pretty astonished how people here think that miners buying out RSx is a good thing for amd, when it is a huge problem, which they try really hard to solve.

In simple terms, AMD puts more raw power on their cards because their gaming drivers are shit. Nvidia has better drivers so they can get the same performance with less power.

But for mining (and openCL shit in general) drivers mean nothing, that's why cryptominers prefer AMD (of course, that is, until this happens).

Basically everyone who gives a shit about a growing nvidia monopoly.
This mining shit is giving AMD some money but it's fucking killing them, since the cards aren't going into the hands of gamers- and the people that game developers make games for.
More mining = less games work with AMD cards = AMD is dead no matter how much they sell, since mining will be dead in a few months.

AMD gives ~zero shits about gaymers. Thank you for buying Evergreen, now enjoy your green goy cards.

If cryptofags are really driving up the demand this much, doesn't that mean that production will increase to compensate? Seems like it'll be win/win in the long run?

>bitcoin
No one mines bitcoin.
>>
>>60865013
Why is it that a momentary cryptocurrency bubble has immediate long term impacts on game optimization in video games still years in the making, but the fact that AMD video cards for once, to say nothing of the amount of money they're making on Ryzen and the fortune they're set to make with Threadripper and Epyc, are completely sold out means nothing for the company's long term finances and market capitalization? Get the fuck real. AMD hasn't been this relevant to any computing market for a decade and can do almost no wrong if you listen to the tech media and forums.
>>
>>60865192
>bitcoin market will crash

They've been saying that for ages now. In reality, bitcoin keeps going up, and new cryptocurrencies are created every day with various degrees of success. Mainstream stock market exchanges even let you trade entirely in bitcoin these days.
>>
>>60854427
1070s actually trump 480/580s in mining, power draw, and price (thanks to inflation and lack of supply).

There is no reason to buy AMD until GPU mining crashes.

too many austist here don't realize that crypto currencies don't have a singular source or "bubble" because each one is a unique algorithm.
The total value is extremely predictable based on said algorithms so the market knows roughly when to switch, and when a currency will die but the question is are you gonna get fucked while trading between them, and which one will people flock to next?

think of it as a game of poker where players change but value never leaves the table, it can only be held or swapped between them. Value fluctuates but never leaves...

Hello Chinese government.
>>
>>60865289
I didn't say that. Everything has a chance at "crashing". But at this point in time, bitcoin is a pretty low risk investment. It's also pass it's massive high risk growth phase, so the huge short term profit margins aren't there anymore. At the same time, bitcoin is stable enough that it's serving as a standard to back newer cryptocurrencies.

I wonder if people who throw so much hatred on the other side have any brains, no matter if green or red or blue. Competition is a must or else the other side is going to greedily drain every last cent out of your wallet for things that aren't worth their price in the slightest. Heck, with AMD underperforming for quite some time we already had a taste and you have to agree that when AMD spending much less on R&D than Intel comes with something better than it, Intel must've not had prioritised delivering best products. Or even good.
Basically, you may want your team to be better, but you don't ever want it to be the only one or even overwhelmingly better.

What's funny about those /pol/ things is failing to see how cryptocurrencies are about speculation and just blatantly failing to understand what is speculation.

Until then it's a viable option. You buy the card run 24 seven tell you no longer make money versus electricity. Then you sell the card used then you likely recoup most of the money if you haven't already through mining.
>>
>>60854821
AMD has at least equal if not double half precision verse there single and they have roughly half double precision, Nvidia's slower than AMD in these two departments by a factor of 50 even on the thousand dollar cards, I don't know what you need to crypto mine, but AMD is the far better value. It's the reason why Nvidia cards prices never go up with crypto currency you just can't fucking do it on their cards.
>>
>>60861139
Honestly Nvidia drivers are worse than AMD's, however most games are only using one or two cores, so Nvidia was more flexible scheduler, while it's far more inefficient than AMD is able use resources that you otherwise wouldn't be using to boost game performance. The fact that Nvidia cards at least equal performance on paper to AMD are performing better than AMD speaks volumes to how shitty game developers are.
>>
>>60868126
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't, On paper, the fury X as powerful as the 1080?

AMD requires more power to get the same performances Nvidia cards do, this is largely down to how the schedulers work. AMD has saturation problems due to shitty developers, Nvidia's scheduler can force multithreading because shitty developers can't fucking do that.
>>
>>60860354
Nvidia does just fine when it's multithreaded, the issue is there scheduler is really really inefficient, so when the program is multithreaded AMD has far lower overhead with the hardware scheduler than Nvidia has with their software.

It's honestly really interesting topic to look into.
>>
>>60866530
I only have a 1066 GB because MSI wouldn't give me an AMD equivalent card for the RMA. Personally I'd rather of had the AMD graphics card just for more RAM, there's a few games that are pushing the 1060 to 6 GB and if it had more RAM probably past that point. I'm probably going to get Vega when it comes out if the mining bullshit is over, if only because it's gonna have something that allows it to function even when you hit a RAM wall.
>>
>>60858532
This is honestly the reason why I assume the Intel rumors were true where they'd be putting AMD GPU's on them, it might not be the best option for AMD but it would give them a fuck load of market share.

The better question is how do we know Newegg isn't just putting the GPU's in the motherboards and mining themselves until the things sell?

>>60862523
Newegg gets a batch of those 500 cards
they "sell" those 500 cards to people for MSRP, but then people just show up selling the cards again for $500-$600.
It technically isn't Newegg but it's happening.
>>
>>60866723
Because AMD is losing market share gaming
AMD is an profiting from any of the bullshit that's happening with coin miners
with less market share means less developers are willing to optimize the games for AMD
less people buying AMD cards mean less investment in making AMD games or even less investment to AMD drivers

It completely fucks everyone over because the moment Nvidia has monopoly it's fucking done PC gaming is dead.
