Is learning information security from ctf bad? Should I first get the knowledge from books/courses before I participate in ctfs? Are there any beginner level ctf games?
>>60845278
I'm just starting out, but from what I've heard CTF is a good way to go about learning stuff fast.
There are CTF competitions for varying levels, e.g. there's a HSCTF for high schoolers. All CTFs have writeups and stuff.
This website is your friend for finding more CTF stuff: https://ctftime.org/
Also, look up LiveOverflow on yt

register yourself, then have a look at the 6 challenges. It's like a series of IT-security puzzles.

you can place breakpoints op perl_eval_pv to find some perl code
>>60845349
Explain me how, I have a .exe
>>60845360
run the exe in a debugger (ida/olly), go to perl516.dll and find perl_eval_pv and place a breakpoint
>>60845387
you won't immediately find the perl code you are looking for btw, but it's a start
>>60845387
Seeing as it looks like this is a CTF thread for noobs, what other programs should I have for CTF?
>>60845425
it depends what kind of challenge you want to solve
i guess you can start at https://github.com/apsdehal/awesome-ctf
