Sorry KDE fags and Gnomefags, the perfect desktop already exists and it's called XFCE

I used to use xfce for lower end machines and Gnome for my main desktop... but now I just realized there's no point in using anything other than xfce in any situation.

Xfce is lightweight enough to run on shit machines, but has enough features to be used as desktop

it's literally perfect in every aspect

I don't understand why this is not the universal default for all Linux

Agreed

GNOME (3) has a shit paradigm and design and feels like I'm using a tablet with a mouse except even as a tablet it would be a shit UI.

KDE is always buggy as hell and even when all the bugs finally get fixed it somehow still finds a way to be full of bugs.

The only thing better than Xfce is i3 but it has a steep learning curve for people who've never used anything like it before and probably isn't worth it.

I've been using XFCE since 2011 and I generally like it, but ever since I updated to the latest stable version of debian I've noticed lots of bugs in Thunar that weren't there before, and it's not as nice in general.

I don't know if that's XFCE's fault or if it's Debian's fault.

This. There is no denying that the current XFCE4 has major screen tearing problems. It's actually fixed now, but the rest of Xfce 4.13 isn't done .. so you'll have to get a git snapshot (and the bugs that go along with doing that) if you don't want the screen tearing.

>>60845431
I for one am very glad that Xfce is still "outdated", specially if Windows 10 and GNOME are what's "modern". No, my computer is NOT a tablet or a phone. It's got a mouse and a keyboard and multiple screens, it's a computer and I want a interface that makes sense on a computer.

I dont know much about this stuff, but dont they just make X, and doesnt X just draw shapes?
If anyone is to blame Id say its the program developers/package manager for not putting shit into the same directory every time, the package manager for not maintaining a list of installed programs with their location (inb4 registry), and the desktop environment developers for not querying the contents of either the install_list.txt (when available) and the contents of all install directories.

I love XFCE, besides a bug rendering it unusable.

I cannot describe it very well, but it's like ghosting?

Like, you have your mouse resting, let's say you're watching a video.
You have that random window, that is not at first plane or is in a completely different desktop or has been closed for however long, showing on top of your window, that you're working.
If you move the mouse it updates the screen, but there is a high chance that you'll get nothing but a few short glimpses of the window you want.

Pretty frustrating and stupid

>>60846672

I adore XFCE... I just want them to get with the times. I finally moved to Plasma 5 after a lot of debating it in my head.

They're still nowhere near getting gtk3 support and gtk4 will be out soon. QT and KWin outdo gtk and compton in my opinion.

The golden era of XFCE is dead, but it's still a nice desktop. Just needs to be updated.

At least it isn't MATE.

why would you wan't to use a deinstead of just using a wm?
i'm assuming people that use linux use it because they want to learn how shit works which implies they program
if you are programming on linux they you probably chose it because of the tools/productivity
if this is not the case please just use osx or windows
or continue pretending you're a superuser :^)

Xfce and every other desktop environment running under X uses window manager, retard. At the end when you install the utilities with your "just WM" setup, you end up with the same things.

Screen tearing can be fixed by:
1. compositor - this has the advantage of handling compositing and effects like blur, fade, etc.
2. actually configuring your GPU driver holy shit - both Intel and AMD drivers have a TearFree option
>>
>>60855757
How?
>>
>>60856514
Thumbnails are unrelated to DE.
