Hey /g/ whats stopping you from switching from Android phone to iPhone? (Or visa versa)
For me its:
>Need to pay to play youtube in the background
>No proper 4chan app
>No headphone jack
I do like the syncing feature though.

>Buy Apple phone

Hmm...
>>
Let's run down the list

Android phones let you:
>have real encryption with no backdoors
>download over 100MB over mobile data
>install a third party app launcher and icons
>use it as a flash drive
>share any kind of file over wifi/bluetooth
>torrent via torrent clients in the playstore
>install apps outside the playstore
>modify a few system settings to increase performance and decrease battery drain
>manually control complex camera functions via third party apps
>natively browse files
>view better colors via amoled displays
>browse 4chan and natively open webms inside them via third party apps
>extract/browse archives
>add additional phone storage via a micro SD card
>replace the stock battery with a bigger one
>add widgets to your home screen
>access important functions by swiping down

ALL WITHOUT HAVING TO HACK YOUR PHONE

This is coming from an ex-iphone user. After you go android, it's hard to go back to a toddler phone.
>>
>>60840660
those things can be rebuttled easily.
>use youtube’s website to play videos in the background

>>
>>60840660
Basically iOS, but now also the jack. And the battery is meh, no matter how good the OS is "optimized" 4g is always going to rape small batteries.

Shouldn’t crash ever. Just use Safari. Once you started a video on the website, go out of full screen or close the app, then if you press play (either on any physical controller or via the control center) it should continue where left off.
>>
For me, it's the fact that none of the apps are optimized for Android phones. Watching my fagdroid friends use any of their apps is hilarious, they lag like crazy, and these are on supposedly high-end phones.

An iPhone 5 has less lag than high-end Android phones for most apps.

After three android phones, I consider going back to iPhone. The only thing that kinda holds me back is the low screen-to-body ratio. The iPhone 7 has a too small screen, but the 7 Plus is too large a phone for its screen. I have never held a 7 Plus in my hands so my opinion may not count.
>>
>>60842000
It looks identical to Clover, what the fuck are you on about?
>>
>>60841930
which app?
>>
MicroSD (non-negotiable)
Removable battery (also non-negotiable)
Headphone jack (I don't wear ass-hugging skinny jeans so an extra millimeter of thickness isn't an issue)

Also, I don't like iOS. I don't get this narrative a lot of iPhone shills on this board have that Android users are knowingly compromising on their ROM choice. I've tried iOS. I didn't care for it. It wasn't awful - just nothing special. I noticed a few things here and there that were nice, but nothing good enough to make me think, "I gotta get this."
>>
>>60840660
>apple
>beautiful UI
>every single shit is paid app

>android
>UI is ok
>most app is ugly shit but it just work
>>
>>60842229
Also one more point against iOS:

The aesthetics of the ROM were fucking awful to me. It was one step below those ultra-pajeet touchwizz ROMs for Samsung phones where everything is glossy metal and neon colors, the kind of shit a middle-schooler would make. I don't know how much of that is customizable but, for a default, it was gross.
>>
>>60842181
The Chan
>>
the main reason I'm still using an iPhone is because continuity is great and the thing is pretty straight forward. also the last time I switched the android keyboard was awful (that was back in the S3 days though)
>>
I've got an ipad and the total inability to sideload non-approved applications at my own risk to do tasks that no unpaid app does is a big no for me.
>>
>>60842000
As someone who's used both that app and Clover, it doesn't just look garbage, it IS garbage
>>
>>60842266
You ever see that image with the caption that reads "It doesn't matter how many resources you have if you don't know how to use them", with the guy standing on a fuckload of ladders to peer over a wall?

Why does an android device need twice the battery size to get similar life as an iPhone? Why does it need 4-6GB of RAM?

Android is "smooth" nowadays because mobile processors got performance and RAM cheap. But at the end of the day Android still runs within a JVM and has shit efficiency. Ever fucking update Google is announcing another "Project" to solve the performance issues and nothing changes.

How many times are they going to change their runtime? We went from Dalvik to ART, ditching the JIT meme and now suddenly we're back to JIT. Google knows Android runs like shit and that's why Fuchsia is written in a not-shit language.
>>
>>60842311
There's no such thing as "the android keyboard"
>>
>>60842392
well, then whatever shit the S3 used back then
>>
>>60842286
>The aesthetics of the ROM were fucking awful to me
Stop talking shit out of your ass, no ROM for the past 2 years differed from AOSP in design, not even in the colors.
>>
I've tried all 4chan apps. Now I have shortcut to 4chan.org on home screen.

>>
>>60842386
>Why does an android device need twice the battery size to get similar life as an iPhone?
Because the regular size iPhones have tiny 4.7" 750p displays, whereas most android flagships have much larger 1440p displays.

The iPhones that do have a comparable size displays to your average android flagship, ie. iPhone 6+/6S+/7+, all have ~2900mah batteries. And they're still only 1080p.

Cost. I would love to be in on the iPhone 8, but I just can't justify it at the price they've dropped when I have a Note 5 that's still holding up pretty good. I would trade it in a second if I could though. Totally done with Android though, it keeps getting worse and worse.

The OS is really a boring piece of shit. My first smart phone was a 3s and I was bored with it in a month. I'm pretty fucking fed up with Google at the moment and it's time for a new phone and I'm considering an iPhone but the more I actually think about the more I realize it's only good in theory. The actual product isn't as good as the hype and community make it out to be.

I have a $75 dollar phone that does a better job than that $649.00 dollar crapple ishit.

My phone is CDMA so battery lasts like 3-4 days depending on use, i can swap the fucking battery when i want too, and i can use the AUX jack in my car to play my music via power amp.

The fucking note 2 has a nice pen that works with my microshit surfak as well, nice little gimmick to be honest.

If i switched to a crapple ishit it would be a downgrade for me, you dumb fucking retards need to stop buying these $50 dollar chink phones at a huge mark up, you are only making the rich greedy mother fuckers more richer and more fucking greedier.

I'd switch to Android immediately if it supported iMessage.
>>
in general i'm unconvinced that any specific android phone will be supported 3 years after it's been released. google has tried like 3 or 4 different programs to signal genuine, first-class-citizen, long term support (nexus, android silver, google phone edition, etc...) and none of them has had official first party support for as long as apple's iphones got from apple.

i bought an SGS 4 through the google edition program and it was practically unsupported within 2 years. the iPhone 5S came out around the same time and it's slated to get iOS 11 in September, 4 years later.
>>
I dunno what IOS has but android lets me run brave browser and dns66 without rooting, and I see no ads, ever.

Accidently getting on the internet without ad blocking is rage inducing. And Safari sucks shit, at least aesthetically.
>>
>>60847677
Has nothing to do with encryption on your phone.
Those Chinks were able to sell AppleID information, which includes name, email and phone numbers, because those are generally needed if you are doing support in any way.

You’re twisting the truth into your own shilling benefit.
>>
>>60852079
Those things are supposed to be encrypted and kept private. This is nothing compared to the recently found zero day exploits that allow attackers to gain full access to iPhones through web pages.

>real encryption

Anything stored on your iPhone is safe; anything stored on iCloud is not.

>download over 100MB

You got me there, that annoys the shit out of me.

>install third-party launcher

Meh. Rice.

>flash drive

I have not needed that in ages. The last time someone I know needed that, it was because their Windows computer shit the bed. Go figure.

>share any file

Possibly/probably forthcoming with Files.

>torrent

If you torrent on a phone, you are a faggot, and you’re demolishing your battery life to boot.

>modify a few system settings

Not as necessary when the manufacturer actually pays attention to the device.

>manually control camera functions

Why?

>natively browse files

Deprecated. Files.

>OLED

Deprecated as of next iPhone.

>browse 4chan via native apps

I miss Clover, but not *that* much.

>handle archives

I honestly haven’t had to do this much.

>add additional phone storage via SD

SD sucks, internal memory is better, and the iPhone comes in 256GB anyway.

>replace the stock battery

USB batteries are a better value. They cost a similar amount, but can be used to charge everything, not just your phone.

>add widgets

Rice.

>access important functions by swiping down

You swipe up instead, brainlet.

>>60853689
>>60840660

Blame Google. I’m serious. This is an artificial limitation Google imposed on the app, not Apple. Youtube is notable for being one of the few video apps that can’t even do PiP on the iPad.

>>60851167
>I can swap the battery when I want!

I spent $27 on a 20000mAh USB battery that can charge my iPhone eight times. How significant is the practical difference?

>>60847968

I did exactly this, N6 to iPhone 7. It’s been good to me.

>>60843187

>iTunes

iTunes is used for almost nothing in modern iOS usage. You use it to do local backups instead of iCloud backups, and you use it to add music if you don’t use one of the many streaming services that are generally a better experience.

Not just this but you're literally paying more for less (not mentioning all the useful features of Android). The 32GB iPhone 7 plus and oneplus 3T have about the same performance with the 3T being a few milliseconds faster than the 7 plus in most apps.

Oneplus 3T:
>$400
>64GB
>6GB of RAM
>Full HD AMOLED screen
>16MP camera
>3,400 mAh battery
>charges to 60% in 30 minutes

iPhone 7 Plus:
>$800
>32GB
>3GB RAM
>Full HD IPS screen
>12MP camera
>2,900 mAh battery
>charges to 20% in 30 minutes

>I haven’t had to jailbreak since iOS 9.
Good for you but the point is you literally have to hack your iPhone and leave it with a huge vulnerability for hackers to stick their dick in for basic android features.

Meanwhile on android we just install newpipe to background play and even download youtube videos without having to hack our phones.

It is 100% retarded to blame Apple or the iPhone for your inability to background-play or download YouTube videos, and play up Android as an alternative because of its ‘openness’. Do you realize that Google intentionally withheld your ability to background-play YouTube videos?

So what’s going on here is, Google is artificially limiting the iOS app, and your idea of a solution to this is using a Google product instead. You’re playing right into their hands, you giant low-functioning mongoloid.

>aimed at the iPad Pro

Confirmed for not knowing what you’re talking about. Every iPad getting iOS 11 will be getting all the same features. I believe everything from the Air and up will be getting iOS 11.

>drain your iPhone to 0%

Is this contingent on being at 0%? Because, if so, I can explain that. The iPhone takes a while to boot out of battery trap, and it sometimes charges slower while in battery trap.

The choice of updating in the context of our discussion is regarding the fact that your samshit phone DOES NOT GET UPDATES after two years. It's not about whether or not you can auto update.

Yes you can choose not to update; that wasn't my point. My point is that you can't choose TO UPDATE after 2 years. Goddamn, you're fucking stupid.

Dragging and dropping is the simplest manner to transfer files to a phone. If I want to transfer a music collection over to my phone from my laptop, I select the folder, drag it over to a window showing Android's filesystem, and drop it in place. No need for some fancy proprietary iTunes application!

>If you torrent on a phone, you are a faggot, and you’re demolishing your battery life to boot.
LibreTorrent doesn't really have a big effect on my battery life. And torrenting on a phone has its uses. Sometimes I want to listen to an album by Porter Robinson and I'm on the bus, so I can't torrent on my laptop.

>Deprecated. Files.
This took forever, yes? Why not simply offer this functionality from day one?

Basically its:
>Lack of a physical back button (mostly Apple's fault for wanting to feel edgy with a single button)
>The way apps work is almost fundamentally different compared to Android in certain situations
>Your possibility of actually doing major visual UI changes reduces drastically
>Bluetooth access extremely limited either between iPhones or just with audio devices
>Lightning port is extremely dumb, either USB Typce C connection or micro USB 2.0 connection would've been 10x better
>Apple thinks every single thing you do on your iPhone has to composed of blund lifeless colors aka videos look dead and games look like they have saturation forced down by 15%
>The camera is ok but it has some stupid quirks that could've been easily fixed if Apple gave 2 proper shits about their user base
>storage is extremely limited and one hell of an expensive upgrade
>It literally looks like a close minded person designed the phone

That's pretty much it. I love the way the iPhone moves when it comes to handling animations and apps but there are too many bad things about it to actually jump the train.

Who told you that anything stored on your iPhone is safe is most probably a tech illiterate or doesn't know how the iPhone functions at least in 2017.

Your phone can't download files over 100 MB? What.

Sometimes you're forced to torrent on your phone due to being away. I personally tormented music on my phone and it wasn't that big of a hit but it took some of the life of my batter away.

We are talking about current gen. Your next iPhone might still have basic LCD.

Some people need SD cards due to the expand-ability that comes with them and nowadays the speed of said SD cards have improved significantly.

Also, your 27 dollar 20k mah usb battery is bad. It has unstable energy going into your phone and it might just fry it one day, bad idea brother.

Agreed, which is why that’s exactly what I do. I use cloud storage, or Files (now) or File Explorer Pro (before Files).

>This took forever, yes?

Not the point. It exists now, and is therefore a deprecated complaint. Might as well complain that Android doesn’t have a built-in flashlight function.

>With an SD card slot [...]

Yeah, you can have as much storage as you want, but it’s all slow, and you often have to remove the back of the phone – and even the *battery* – to get to the SD card slot, making it impractical to change cards OTF anyway.

>>60858766

>forced to torrent on your phone

Nah. Nobody needs to torrent on their phone. I use a VPN to access my home torrent server, which is much more capable than any phone-based implementation. If I really must access the content I just torrented *immediately*, I also forward the content in question to my Google Drive sync folder, wait a few minutes, and there it is.

Cloud storage has never let me down. I wouldn’t say I “rely” on it per se, because I have other copies in secure locations, but I “rely” on cloud storage in that I *make use of* it in order to sync content between devices. Which is what it’s best used for.

>don’t remember having to remove the battery

I saw a guy with an LG that did that just a couple weeks ago.

>I don’t need so no one else needs fallacy

Explain why you think you “need” to torrent something instead of waiting until you get home to get at it. I know you probably don’t remember this, because you’re 13 years old, but we used to have to wait to get home to do practically *everything*. And the solution I use not only allows you to initiate a torrent download from an iOS device, but also, if necessary, access the resulting content. It’s just as good in practice.

Once again, not only completely handwaving the fact that you do you not NEED your torrented hentai RIGHT FUCKING NOW, but also ignoring the fact that I put forth a perfectly viable alternative that gets the job done.

In fact, it’s actually better: with a home-based solution, you can torrent/seed multiple terabytes of material at a time without hesitation, you never have to worry about being blacklisted (whether due to anal private trackers or simply sending bad packets) because of anomalies resulting from jumping cell towers mid-download, you never have to worry about any data charges that may apply, and you never have to worry about the impact on your battery life, because doing things my way is no more intensive than browsing a web page.
