No such thing. They just stop optimizing them. Check out benchmarks of the 1060 on unoptimized games, 20-40 FPS less than usual. AMD doesn't have this problem because everything is unoptimized anyways. Instead they put what would be their driver and marketing budget into better hardware. RX 470 doesn't have a 192 bit bus, so it doesn't choke on Poorly Made Obscure UE4 Shit 2: The Return of the Caching. You only buy Nvidia if you want to play mainstream games and upgrade every generation. That's all there is to it.

Not downgrade. I bought gtx 770 2 months before gtx 900 series came out.

By the time 970-980 got released, gtx770 barely got any optimizations for games.

Meanwhile ayymd has been rolling out HD7870 drivers even in 2016.
