>tfw fell for the comodo meme
Tried Comodo and my XP setup can't handle it, it brings the whole system to a halt and I have to reset (I use it just fine in 7 though). I was going to try bitdefender free but then found out it's cloud based. Is there any way to escape the botnet in 2017 on a XP computer while having some antivirus protection? I need the XP setup to run certain software (Microsoft went full retard with the copyright shit in 7 so ASIO drivers mute the whole system when running).

I already have GNU/Linux on my other drive, but I still use XP for some stuff

pick one.
just run your shitty legacy software with a shim/vm or actuality pay someone to port it
Oh and BTW fuck Comodo's "Secure shopping", installed it by accident because I didn't notice some of the tabs during the installation (thankfully this didn't happen to me on 7) and then the "uninstall" shortcut pointed to a missing exe. Good thing I managed to find the MSI by digging in %temp% and could use it to uninstall that shit.

Well, it's more secure than 7 in some regards. For example WannaCry would cause a BSOD instead of working as it's intended to.
>just run your shitty legacy software with a shim/vm or actuality pay someone to port it
It's not legacy software though, it runs in 7. The thing is, due to some retarded copyright policies if you're using the ASIO drivers then all the other sound is muted. I use it as a multi-FX for my guitar and to process audio, so if I want to play along songs I can't unless I use some ReWire which causes crashes often. It's very annoying.

wtf kek
is that in Vietnam or something like that?

That is categorically not true. It is less secure in literally every way. And no, WCry would work just fine on XP. MS even released an emergency patch it was so effective.
This just proves you're the dumbest faggot on this website to make such an ignorant comment.

how about Avast? It's not the most effective AV out there but it's better than nothing tbqh.

just installed it, seems fine although I know it's basically avast now
less annoying than avast btw, doesn't even require registration

Newest Comodo wouldn't even run on my XP machine, installed some older version that takes up a lot of resources tho.
>>60821925
pic related lasted me thorough all these years without any infection, I'd totally recommend using it instead of shitty antivirus programs
also ASIO has always been muting everything else, how else would it work if it let other programs access your soundcard?

wew lad
mine would freeze after booting several times

wrong
I've always used it just fine in XP along other programs. What you can't do is use more than one program that uses ASIO at the same time but that can be fixed with a DAW and loading the other stuff as VST plugins.
>common sense
Yeah good luck when a site you visit gets compromised. That's like saying you won't be robbed if you avoid rough neighborhoods, shit happens. I use ABP and I can recognize obvious malware like double extension files, but shit happens. And you can't count on everyone using your computer to have the same precautions as you. Using an AV is like wearing a rubber, it's not fail safe but it will protect you from a lot of infections. Of course if HPV, syphilis or herpes comes across it won't do shit. But at least it can save you from getting AIDS provided it doesn't break. This is the same idea. Ideally you wouldn't sleep with someone who has a STI, but sometimes you don't know. Like the husband who gets cucked and contracts an STI that Chad gave his wife that he foolishly trusted, so now he's not just a cuck but a cuck with a STI.

I run linux too but many things can only be done in windows
oh and linux is far from immune BTW
openBSD or even better, Be, would be closer to being secure systems. That said, no computer connected to the internet is really secure. Not with hardware level backdoors and MitM attacks being a thing.
