What OS are you using?

I am using Windows 7 mainly for work and I would switch to Linux but I don't know if Microsoft software I use for work

Also another reason I don't use Linux because I don't know how to use it

Distros like Ubuntu are really easy to use, and you can switch to more advanced distros as you learn how to do more complex stuff like compiling programs. There are plenty of open source programs that should be compatible with the file formats you're used to using, for instance LibreOffice.

As for my OS, I just switched from Ubuntu to Fedora. I also installed the Cinnamon DE simply because I like the Windows layout.

I use windows 10. Look, I just need something that runs the software I use.

why

fedora is a great choice though

I am running Manjaro on a VM so I don't fuck up when I actually install it on something

If you want more control over your software, for example having the ability to optimize programs for the hardware you're running, you would need an advanced distro like Gentoo. If you don't want to go through the hassle of that, you'd be better off with a distro targeted at beginners and casual users like Ubuntu or Mint.

Debian 8 with XFCE. I used to use Windows 7, then accepted the upgrade to Windows 10 and liked it for a bit, until it was too late to go back. At this point I decided to try Ubuntu, so I dual-booted for a while, then found I never used Windows any more and began to really oppose the telemetry and lack of freedom, and Ubuntu was much quicker. Then I changed to Xubuntu (not much difference, I know, but I prefer XFCE) and removed Windows. Then I accidentally used dd to overwrite my boot partition instead of a USB stick, so I decided just to install Debian instead of fixing it, because I'd been wanting to try Debian for a while, so I installed it, copied all my files from backup and tweaked it a bit, and here we are now.

Windows 8.1
with Bing
, it's the one that came with the notebook. Some changes here and there and it flies with a Celeron N2840.

Shit, nigga, I did that within my first week on Ubuntu and there's not much (aside possibly from outdated libs) stopping you from doing it there.

Though I guess packaging it first would be a good idea.
>>
>>60797316
Well I have had lots of trouble with libs, so I thought it was pretty complicated. I guess it would be considered complex to Windows users too.
