blackplayer for music, MX player used to be pretty good for videos
I play shattered pixel dungeon all of the time. p. great, get it form f-droid.

Poweramp, best music player i've tried.
As beta tester, new version has visual effects.

Equalizer, is the best i've tried too

VLC was removed from f-droid, I don't know why.

Poweramp and Black Player are still the top tier music players, but neither of them is free as in freetard.

I'm yet to find Android app I like. Google makes decent ones but they spy on everything I do and their apps are basically Webview wrapped into an Android app.

Everythign else asks a dozen permissions and they want every bit of your data off your phone to install some free app.

These days I don't even try any new apps because it's such a huge hassle trying to deal with all this shit.

Shit sucks.

I don't know how but Android experience has become so bad over the past 3-4 years. I have no idea what the cause for all this is.

Getting pretty fucking sick of Lightning. Any better Android browser alternatives? The stock "Browser" actually performs better than Lightning for me right now.
>>
>>60789460
GNU Icecat or Brave
>>
>>60788403
Via browser, es explorer(pro version but I just pirate it, it has no annoying bullshit from the free version), simple gallery, OGYouTube, Neutron, wps office(modded, without network capabilities), Minuum, Nova, adaway. These are the absolute minimum for me. Other apps are SoundCloud, yandex maps, OpenVPN, WolframAlpha, bacon camera, lucky patcher, ADM(Via has nice integration with it), calculator(the open source one, that looks like from AOSP but has more functions), substratum, memowidget, diskdigger, drivedroid and ttorrent. Also magisk, but it's built-in in the ROM I use. All of this works perfectly without gapps and its replacements.

Update the Android webview then switch to Google's webview in developer options. Should work as fast as it gets. Also check out Via browser.

does anyone know of a freedom respecting music player which either follows the jukebox paradigm or where you can modify the default action?

The player should import music and have playlists.
When you play a playlist, it should be able to pick a random song when one song is complete.
A single tap on a song should add it to the queue, so the player will only pick a random song when the queue is empty.
Most players can do this with two clicks, but I would like to get something better if there is one.

To deny certain apps internet access? I mean, you can achieve the same thing and more with XPosed but it doesn't support Nougat apparently. This is very essential if you're on a metered connection. You can make a profile to allow WiFi connections only. Also:
>apps with ads won't display ads anymore since ads need network
>apps you don't trust accessing internet, but still need, can be blocked
>>
>>60790965
>how does it work
Connects to Google servers to download apps. You can use the accountless option but I prefer logging in because old versions used to bug out if you don't log in. It's probably fixed now.

I really like the 'fit to width' too. May not be essential for some boards but often I end up clicking every picture when using clover.
'Fit to width' gets rid of that.
And it preloads images iirc.

Simple interface, Opus support, and good integration.
>>
>>60797438
Adaway consumes less power (virtually 0), but requires root.
Same thing with AFWall+ > NetGuard.
DNS66 and NetGuard have a similar efficiency because they block ads the same way. Neither requires root.
The only advantage DNS66 has over AdAway is no root requirements.
If you need AFWall+ but don't have root, use NetGuard instead of DNS66.

However, NetGuard doesn't drain much power at all, at least on my phone (around 1%). I assume DNS66 would behave the same way. So I doubt the battery consumption is significant.

I use Foobar2000 for playing audio but it's truly an unfortunate situation where if you have albums with multiple artists, and you try to filter by album, it will separate the albums up by artist, so for example, I have 3 different entries for Chrono Trigger, one with Nobuo Uematsu, one with Yasunori Mitsuda, and one with Nobuo Uematsu and Noriko Matsueda. All I want is for it to just fucking list all the tracks in the album in one list! If I want to break it down by artist, I would choose to filter by Artist! So unbearably annoying that I am forced to simply use the folder browser instead. Sickening, really, I want to punch the developer in the face. But overall it has the best features of any free app I've tried. Neutron was the best audio quality I came across, but paying for a music player is something I will never stoop to.

Well I am referring to the Android version. Desktop Foobar2000 doesn't have any problems at all; if I want to filter by album, it filters by album, no bullshit. All the songs by the various artists are displayed, and are sorted by track.

On Android, I just want to push "Album" and get a list of all the albums, I don't want to see 3-4 different pictures of the same album and hunt around for the song I want; what if I want to listen to the album in track order? I have to go back and forth between the different artist entries to find each goddamn track. So I have to just use the file browser instead, which is really, really annoying. But there's truthfully no decent Android audio player that can handle my video game chiptune formats properly other than Foobar2000, that I know of anyway.

I really like Document Viewer as well. Would recommend.

Also: Wi-Fi Privacy Police will make it so that your smartphone isn't a beacon sending out a uniquely identifying code to everyone when it's not actually using wifi.

To clarify: android (and iOS too I believe) constantly sends out requests to connect to known wifi networks to speed up the initial handshake. There is some company that creates tracking devices for store owners to provide analytics to store owners etc by listening to these requests. This app blocks that request and only reads the announcements from wifi routers.

Who really needs this? The app is there to run in background, you don't need themes.
Network speed graph and the traffic log aren't really important and if you need these there are apps for them.
Honestly the only important feature they've held back is "filter network traffic", but since this would mostly be used to block ads and you already have the ability to import hosts files (much more convenient) you don't lose much. Literally 1 or 2 useful, situational, functions. It's still a good app.
