But I still use my T400 and X200s and their use rivals my desktop for time.

Best laptop other than the screen. It's terrible other than the aspect ratio. Keyboard is godly and the battery life is pretty good if you have a good battery.

Still very fast if you aren't an idiot and know how to use slightly more efficient software. Kicks all HDD based laptops in the balls for speed even. I've also not needed a new laptop since I bought it and it's never crashed or broken down.

I have a T410 which worked alright, but started overheating. Probably needs new thermal paste and the fan properly cleaned.

Upgraded to an Elitebook recently with way better specs, and stuck the SSD from the Thinkpad in there and put an old HDD in its place.

Now it's slow as fuck, even with 8GB of ram. The SSD was a big part of the performance I think. Could be the overheating too but it doesn't get hot unless web browsing and watching videos.

It was a good computer though and I liked the LED for illuminating the keyboard at the top of the screen, was a pretty neat feature.

FCSurplus in London, Ontario sells a lot of off-lease laptops and usually has different thinkpads for around $250-$300. They ship to the states too.

They have a T410, T510, T520, and X201 from $190 - $260 USD.

You can upgrade the cpu to x9100 for 10$ and max 8gb memory.

It's kinda slow but fun to fiddle with.

I owned a t410s and updated to a p50 mainly because my t410s would choke on the amount of JavaScript on modern websites. It would take about 15 secs to load Gmail for example.

I sounds agree that the design of the t400 and t410s are great. I miss the thinklight, screen latch and non-island style keyboard.

It's not a desktop processor, it's and i7 M, just two cores. It's fine for singular tasks, but once those threads reach 4+, everything goes down the shitter. With a load average of 9, not even the mouse is responsive.
