Using the commandline is the issue here? It isn't difficult if you've used them since before graphical interfaces existed.
You literally type in what you want to happen and it happens.

He's not wrong though. I like linux, but every time I use it I'm reminded of why I dislike it. It's a pain in the fucking ass to get everything working unless you've dedicated a lot of time to learning linux inside-out.

No, I DON'T want to compile everything.
No, I DON'T want to figure out dependencies for the software I just downloaded
No, I DON'T want programs with so many options it turns into a cluttered mess
No, I DON'T want to be forced to use repositories to install software if I want it to 'just werk'

The things you WANT to customize, are difficult to customize. Shit you couldn't even give a shit about, like the color of your fucking buttons in a calc app - oh boy you can customize that all you want.

Jesus fucking christ lincucks get your shit together already.

Choose one anon, what the fuck. What do you have against repos?
>>
>>60765250
Not everything is found in a repository

Repositories can be censored

I shouldn't HAVE to install via repository to get things working properly. Repositories are a stop-gap measure to fix an inherent problem with linux: That you can't easily install software like you can in windows or on mac.

Either design your OS taking into account what the market actually wants, or continue to flounder at 1% marketshare. It's real fucking simple, but lincucks still can't figure it out, no matter how many people try to hammer it into their autistic peabrains.

You can. Deb files can add new repos. Best of the both worlds for retards.
>>
>>60765298

What are you talking about, are you mental?

Handling software is way easier on linux. If you don't like using a deb package or rpm file every once in a while you can always stick to arch and find almost anything in the AUR packaged by your random teenager pajeet.

I understand you don't like compiling from source (something that might happen to an average user), but stop shifting blame and projecting.
>>
>>60765354
are you brain damaged?
>>
>>60765298
Yes anon, you see, when using a distro, the nice people at <insert distro here> have already compiled binaries that are tailored specifically for your distro of choice.
Downloading random executables for windows is equivalent, on Linux, to downloading .deb .rpm, whatever, for your distro.
Sure, not everything is found in a repo, but some distros have streamlined this. Ubuntu has third party "ppa"s, of which I'm running quite a few. Arch has the wonderful AUR. To say nothing of Gentoo.
Even the "compile everything from source" distros have automated dependency resolution. I'm not quite sure what you're going on about.
You can install software as easily as Win or Mac. Just because you don't want to touch the repos, doesn't mean there's no "ease of installation".
It's like getting an iPhone and refusing to use the app store, all the while exclaiming how there are no apps for it.
You literally have to install via a repo because if you don't trust the repo, why do you trust the distro you're running?

To add onto Gentoo, it possesses the glory that is layman.
>>
>>60765298
Repositories are a stop-gap measure to fix an inherent problem with linux: That you can't easily install software like you can in windows

Linux:

1.) sudo apt install [enter whatever the fuck you want]
2.) Done!

Windows:
1.) Open browser
2.) Search for software
3.) Download
4.) Install
5.) Installer is piss slow and tries to install all kinds of toolbars and bloatshit.
6.) Uncheck all the boxes
7.) Installs shit anyway
8.) Do you want to set EpicSecurityBrowser as your default browser?
9.) Installation finished
10.) Open program
11.) Something happened.
>>
admirable how linfucks trying to make it look like to be a difficult job to install anything on windows. protip: it requires brain like everything.
you download shit from chip.com or any random shady site? no
you open an exe file you are not confident is alright? no

it is way easier to break the fuckin linux system with a fucked up apt-get autoremove or install or anything command because most of the time you dont even know what the hell that shit do, how it copies shit, if the PPA is shit you dont download half of the required files so you can install the program like 86% its all fucked up like the whole thing. its fun to fuck around with it for like 1 hour but if i want to get shit done thats not the place

You need to get the package with your package manager instead of compiling it from source

If there is no package and you don't know how to compile it, then the program isn't for you
>>
>>60765298
>>I shouldn't HAVE to install via repository to get things working properly.
Well thankfully you don't HAVE to. You're free to download the .tar.gz for your program and compile from source if you so desire.

>>
>>60765730
This is all under the assumption that the software you want to run is in the repository.

Much of the software I want to run is not. And when it isn't it's a pain.
>>
>>60765730
And then when your program isn't on the rep, you're stuck with something much more complicated than the Windows method.

I'm sure plenty of normies will use Windows store soon anyway, which is much better than command line, having to know the name of a program before hand, which also requires all the other steps.
>>
>>60768211
Why can't I download a .exe and install that way?

For example, I want to install popcorn time. It's not in any repositories, so I have to go and find a download for it.

I find a download for it and now I have to compile it.

Now I google how to compile it.
Great, except I have no shortcuts anywhere and there still isn't an executable, so I google to find out how to actually run it (command line, of course, everything's in the fucking command line)
Well I don't want to use a command line to run this shit, so more googling

After an HOUR I've FINALLY got popcorn time working, ALMOST. Except for the VPN. Guess I'll have to do some more googling...

Just what the fuck is this shit lincucks?
You know how long it took me to install on windows? Not even three fucking minutes and most of that was downloading the fucking thing. AND IT ALL "JUST WERKS"

Fuck linux and fuck linux users, seriously. You people don't have a fucking clue what everyday users want to do with their computers. Someone needs to beat half of you to death with a cluebat already.

Linux: By autistic retards, for autistic retards.
>>
>>60770233
>Why can't I download a .exe and install that way?
You can. Sort of. If the software developer provides a precompiled package for your distribution.
>>
>>60770233
this desu

Linux isn't held back by anything more than linux users themselves. You can't improve the process of installing in linux if linux fanboys refuse to believe anyone has any issues with it to begin with.
>>
>>60770251
I mean, you even need command line + parameters just to install a fucking RPM most of the time. It's a terrible design, but Linux nerds are too afraid of improving Linux because if they do and people actually use it, they'll lose their identity. What do they have when every normie is using Linux? I suppose they'll give everyone shit for using a distro that actually works, just like /g/ loves to do.

You have priorities. And that priority comes with a deadline. You chose something that may or may not give you the productivity you require on the spot. That priority made you neglect your computer completely. This is the last thing I don't want my PC to do. A complete breakdown due to negligence.
You are fine with your processor going 100% 24/7. I don't. All because of "just works", I killed off my hard disk just because I couldn't see and hear what is happening under the hood and it's a shitty excuse to empty my wallet for a replacement.
