I wish I could get my zune hd syncing with linux. it "works" just anything i put on it shows up as unknown artist.

This is the lesser-known Sandisk Sansa. I got it in January 2007 (it was on clearance, it was released rather earlier than that) and I still use it to this day whenever I go out.

Never had any issues with tags except for the occasional album art that shows on Foobar but not on the X3ii. Besides that I agree with you, and also want to add the screen is a burning garbage pile and playlist managing was a pain in the ass until I figured a way to use Foobar and Grepwin to automate it.
>>
>>60773150
I think the biggest dumbfounded shock was when I was holding down a volume button on the side and it skipped the track instead. I might be recalling it wrong but I'm pretty sure it was this. If this thing could be customized top to bottom like Foobar then it's great.

My 2001-model car has a cassette deck, so I have one of those little fake-tape adapters that you can plug a device into. It'd be more elegant to replace the head unit with something that does that natively, but that sounds like work. And it'd cost more than twenty bucks.

>he knows correct terminology
>he doesnt call it a mp3 player

all i need to hear now is that you use foss containers and codecs we can be bros
>>
>>60773373
Yeah, I use ALAC
>>
>>60758580
Either one of these:
A sony discman (god i miss it... it was damn good, with excellent sound quality)
A nokia phone, with an MMC card that could play MP3 (and some other codecs, i forgot). It was pretty baller at the time.
>>
One of these, Creative NOMAD
It's not a CD player
>>
>512Mb

I was king of the hill back then
>>
>>60773583
I remember around 2000 or so I got some chink shit MP3 player that had 32MB of memory. Which you could expand by sticking a SmartMedia card into it. My classmates thought this was a really cool thing to have.
>>
>>60773409
i needed to hear this.

i use FLAC for archiving and oggs for mobile and streaming

i use rockbox on a DAP and kodi on linux/lineage ARM devices
>>
>>60773752
I generally use ALAC as I prefer iPods' stock firmware over Rockbox but I'm down to just a 2GB Nano right now so I'm Rockboxing it and transcoding my favourite albums to Opus
>>
>>60773810
thats pretty cool man

i approve of all loseless open formats

I was still using my trusty DD33 and even in 2004 I got some raised eyebrows in the tram because of it but I didn't give a shit.

When you make mixtapes you care a lot more about what music you want to have on the go and not just throwing all of your albums randomly at your portable device.

Rockboxed Sansa Clip Zip.

Dunno how much longer it'll last. I had to resolder the jack port twice, the battery is going to shit, the buttons are getting seriously old... I'm struggling to even find a proper music player on Android, with replaygain support, a decent digital amp, crossfading, wide format support... and that isn't buggy, doesn't use 800MB RAM, isn't riddled with ads, and has a fucking simplistic and functional GUI and not some overly complicated bloated shit that's a pain to use.

Alternatively, I'm considering in the future getting some SBC with a decent audio output, slapping a battery on it, and running proper music decoding. It could have the functional complexity of a shuffle player for all I care, as long as the decoding is good.

Otherwise I'll turn to Sony, the last company to make decent players, albeit quite expensive, and more and more riddled with bullshit they don't need. A good MP3 player doesn't even need a color screen, just a large lowres monochrome display to show the playlist clearly.

I had this one.

First the USB port went then the headphone jack went. Kinda miss it.
>>
>>60775478
For now yes, they're the only ones making good music players now, to the best of my knowledge.

Also the advantages are:
>separate device that can be used or lent separately from a phone
>much more battery life than phone
>smaller, lighter, tougher than phone
>better sound quality than most phones that really have shitty DACs
>hardware buttons and UI designed for music playback

>>60773131
Ipods are Rockboxable anon. That's why they're so godly. An Ipod with a microSD and Rockbox is the last player you'll need.

CDs are analog.

A laser read a "stamp" that is "burned" on to the surface of a disk much the same way a needle reads the surface of a vinyl disc.
>>
a shitty chink mp3 player with 128MB storage space

>>60771578
>live in a major city
>people literally play music through their cell phones
>they're never white
>and its always shit nigger music
>>
>>60778265
Well by those standards, everything is analog. The laser reads the data from the disk in the form of 1 and 0, and a processor decodes the information into audio. A record needle reads an analog waveform from the record, which can then be amplified without any need for decoding. So i'd say the CD is very digital indeed

everything is physically analog
digital is a logical interpretation of an analog signal
like a cd, the pits and lands aren't completely perfect, but they have a great enough contrast that they can be accurately interpreted as being a logical 0 or 1, deriving a perfect, digital signal, from an imperfect, physical/analog pattern

vinyl and other "analog" formats on the other hand, have no such contrast or interpretation, the signal they store is the signal that is used, as-is

512mb of memory.

I used it for 3-4 years, then the buttons broke and I used it mostly as a flash drive. Also had a built in memory card reader and radio.
